I've had close to $500 in repairs to my powerbook in the past month. All for free .

$387 for a broken latch and $79 for a new charger...woot!

I really recommend getting the apple care waranty if you don't have it yet.

I agree. I don't use AppleCare for phone support. Parts are expensive, especially when they aren't the kind you can just up and order on NewEgg. It's there that the AppleCare pays for itself.

i have apple care on my 12inch. it has a sticky hinge that creaks. i'll back up my stuff and re install osx before i bring it in for service. i hope it doesnt take a long time before it gets fixed; i rarely use my pc and would hate to have to rely on it again.

I have never needed AppleCare; I stopped purchasing it after my first Mac, my LC. Now I just purchase Safeware insurance instead.

I have 3 batteries and use my TiBook away from charger all the time. My battery release hing finally gave up and wont release the battery. I have to use letter opener to force it out... Finally I brought it in for Applecare service (I bought my Tibook used) @ my local apple store. Apple geneius check it and est. $300 for repaire (that's one damn expensive replare for a sping hing.) He said my system doesn't have the applecare register. My previous owner was kind enough to give me his purchase recipt which indicate both TiBook and AppleCare was purchased at the sametime @PCMall. Store geneius said great, the proceed with the process and register TiBook and Applecare under my name and everything went smooth.

Whole repair took less than 4 days with shipping time. That's pretty good service. Except they did play with my network setting without adjust it back to my original setting which I have to try to figiure out (even geneious can't figure when I pic up the my TiBook).

I too now purchase AppleCare every time. My first experience was with an Xserve that had memory issues when it was shipped to me. Phone support was excellent when dealing with an upgrade to Server 10.3 - I was directed to a guy who new UNIX inside and out - no level 1 or 2 techs.

That sold it for me - AppleCare all the way for me.

I AGREE!

If it fails it is because the dog tripped over the AC adapter or chewed the cord...or....

I would get applecare too, but for some reason, it is prohibited by law in Florida. Anyone know why?

http://www.safeware.com/

1 pet accident (trip over powercord and break screen) makes it a great buy.... no deductable

$60 per thousand covers almost everything except war damage!

Some homeowners, renters and business insurance policies don't cover computers, and if they do, it may be limited in the type of coverage.

Also, these types of policies may not cover accidental damage, or replacement costs. Plus, they'll make you pay a high deductible when you file a claim.

Did you also know?

Accidental damage is the number one cause of computer losses.

Theft is number two, closely followed by power surges.

And Extended Service Contracts cover mainly mechanical breakdowns.

Safeware, The Insurance Agency, Inc., will insure your computer against damages caused by accidents, power surges, theft and more.

Who should buy computer insurance?

Students

Business Professionals

Small Business Owners

Schools

Home Users

In a word, anyone who owns a computer!

Sounds like a sales pitch. :-)

That's a cool product. I'll have to look into it. Thanks.
