Shanghai CN ? What's that ? Canada ? Ipods ship from Canada now ?

And I'm on the east coast, why's my iPod taking a detour to Alaska of all places ?

Since the iPod seems to be moving further and further away from the final destination, I except FedEx to tell me that my iPod is in China tommorow.

Yeah, no kiddin, maple syrup used to be the #1 industry there until they opened the iPod factory.

Seriously tho, FedEx has a large sorting station in Alaska that handles a lot of the trans-Pacific shipments.

Your iPod will arrive soon, be patient. I suggest you take a good look at an atlas to pass the time.

Um, CN is China. CA is Canada. Don't tell me you didn't know Shanghai is in China?

Since the iPod seems to be moving further and further away from the final destination, I except (sic) FedEx to tell me that my iPod is in China tommorow.
It's already been there, done that, bought the T-shirt.

Of course I know Shanghai is in China, but that doesn't mean there isn't any other place on the globe which is also called Shanghai. There's a Palestine, Texas isn't there ?

I just never assumed that commies were making my ipod.

Boy, you are dumber than a sack of rotten potatoes. Not everything is made in China, and I had no idea that Apple now ships new product, direct from China. That's news to me.

There aren't really any walmarts or targets nearby where I live, so you are %100 wrong, and you may now crawl back into your feces infested cave.

Well, Apple normally ships stuff direct from somewhere in Asia. I think most Macs are built in Taiwan. But I also didn't know that iPods were being made in China although it doesn't surprise me.

A lot of the Taiwanese companies are closing factories in Taiwan and moving over to the mainland. Cheaper, and the quality is the same. A lot of the Macs are coming from Shanghai these days too. For Apple, it seems the shift starting happening this year (or maybe last year), because the companies Apple contracts out to are moving there now too.

BTW, from what I saw years ago, and from what people tell me it's like now, Shanghai is a much more pleasant place than Taipei. I really don't like Taipei much.

I suspected that as well, but there is no need to stop in anchorage in that case.

check this out:

Polar to open U.S.-China flights

Original article can be found at:
http://www.tiaca.org/articles/2004/1...E05E31688F.asp

The U.S. Department of Transportation confirmed Monday that Polar Air Cargo will be a new carrier between the United States and China. The three all-cargo carriers currently serving China - FedEx, Northwest Airlines and UPS - will gain rights to expand their services, as well.

The DOT had announced in early September that it intended to give the new U.S.-China rights to Polar. Monday's announcement makes the decision final, as part of an agreement signed July 24 between the two countries.

The department noted that the benefits of the agreement come at a critical time. China is the United States' largest transoceanic trading partner and the China-U.S. trade is expected to grow faster than any other U.S. air freight market over the next two decades.

The agreement allows a total of 195 new weekly flights over six years for the carriers of each country - 111 by all-cargo carriers and 84 by passenger airlines. Prior to the new agreement, the carriers of each country could operate a total of 54 flights per week. This means that at the end of the six-year period, each side may operate a total of 249 weekly flights between the two countries. The agreement also allows five additional airlines from each country to serve the U.S.-China market over the next six years, of which Polar was the first new U.S. carrier to be named.

The department awarded Polar nine weekly U.S.-China flights, six of which are available now and three beginning March 25, 2005. FedEx and UPS each received 12 additional weekly flights, and Northwest received six. For each of the three incumbent carriers, half of the new flights are available now, and the other half on March 25, 2005.

"These additional routes will help feed the appetite of the growing U.S. economy by providing new avenues for trade with China," said DOT Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs Karan Bhatia.

It's because FedEx has a major hub in Anchorage. It's like when I order something from California, it usually heads to Oklahoma (or Minnesota?) before heading back west.

Even if he could recharge it, what use would he get out of an empty iPod ?

And also, my iPod came today, but I don't physically have it yet, since I missed the Fedex dude. The dude came way too early in the morning, and my beauty sleep is more important than even an iPod. Hopefully the dude will attempt another delivery this afternoon.

If I'm guilty of anything, it is not knowing that Apple sends stuff from China. That I admit.

Yes, to clarify, I will admit I totally messed up on the country code, because I totally rejected the notion that my iPod could be coming from China. I also wasn't equating the Fed Ex codes with internet country codes. So yeah, I admit my brain temporarily seized to function properly for a minute or two.

And for what it's worth, I am actually not that bad when it comes to internet country codes - Here's a few off the top of my head - (And NO, I didn't look anything up or copy & paste from google)

No = Norway
Dk = Denmark
Se = Sweden
Ru = Russia
Fi = Finland
Pl = Poland
Uk = Britain
Jp = Japan
Il = Israel

etc.

Sorry but thinking Shanghai was in Canada and that iPods are manufactured up here when just about every electronic devices comes from the east shows your intellect.

Yeah, I guess you're right, your country obviously doesn't have the capability to be involved in such a product as the iPod. Forgive me for overestimating your abilities.

every thread i wander into has pachead taking a verbal bashing. Exactly how does pachead reflect all of america? and how does where the ipod is made turn into "puff out your chest" nationalism, especially when one user lists his location as cloud city........? i understand people have some legitment differences witht he US (i most certainly do) but i don't relate it to ipod shipping routes and or someone messing up a country code. sheesh
