I've had this problem with OS X since the beginning. The stadard arrow cursor is suppsoed to have a small drop shadow. I know this because I have access to three other Macs in the family and they all have the shadow. The only difference is the machine - all have had the same flavor of OS X with each update.

I have a "Chicklet" iBook 500 Dual USB, 640MB, 10GB, OS X 10.3. The other computers are an eMac, Powerbook G4, and a Dual 533 PowerMac G4.

I'l admit this isn't a big deal, but I'm curious as to why it's not working on my machine. Is this a Quartz Extreme thing? I know the poor iBook doesn't have a supported processor for QE (at least mine doesn't) so I'd accept it if I'm not supposed to have it, but I want to know why. I DO get a shadow under the spinning beach ball.

Any answers out there?

You will only have a shadow under your cursor if your Mac's GPU supports it, and the GPU in your iBook doesn't.
