Personally, I like to sell/buy used, and www.craigslist.org is my best friend. That way, I buy a mac, then when I have more cash, I am able to sell it, add some cash, and buy a newer mac. So, I've only "switched" when the G4 cube came out, but so far, I've owned:

G4 450Mhz Cube
Dual G4 500Mhz PowerMac
G3 233mhz Lombard Powerbook
G4 500Mhz PowerMac
G4 400Mhz Titanium Powerbook
G4 550Mhz Titanium Powerbook
G3 500Mhz iBook

currently have:
G4 867Mhz 12" Powerbook
17" 1Ghz G4 iMac

How's everyone else's list/history look? I'm curious.
I live my life one cool toy at a time.

  • Color Classic
  • LC II
  • Performa 5400
  • Performa 6360
  • Umax J700
  • PowerMac 8600 AV (was that one called a "PowerMac" already? not sure, too lazy to go and check)
  • PowerMac G3 266
  • PowerMac G3 400, B&W
  • Pismo G3 400
  • Cube G4 450
  • PowerMac G4 500 DP
  • PB G4 Ti
  • PowerMac G4 1.0 DP
  • PB 12", rev. B
Except for the LC II and the Pismo, I still have all of my machines - one day when I got kids and they're old enough, we'll be having a field day with the "antique" machines. The Color Classic's my all-time favorite - slow as dirt (16MHz, IIRC) but as cute as it gets

sweet, so i'm not the only "mac whore" around here.

Everytime I sell a mac, I go about 1 week before I start getting apple-withdrawl. Being stuck using my PCs at home is torture enough! haha. Time apart makes the heart grow fonder

Macintosh LC. hot stuff, 6 mb ram (later 10! ), 40 mb hard drive.

Power Mac 6100/60. accelerated to 72 megahertz . 40 MB of ram was hot stuff.

Power Mac G3/233. meh.

Lombard Powerbook (G3/333). my college computer, replaced halfway through with a:

Quicksilver G4/800, now 800 w/2 mb L2 cache courtesy of the aftermarket . current play box, with two 17" Apple LCDs off of a Radeon 9000 and a DVI-ADC adapter.

in the meantime my parents are sporting a Tangerine iMac DV/400, and it suits them just fine.

TiBook 550 -- This is the first Mac I have ever owned... I switched from Windozes last year and have not looked back since.

Hopefully by mid-late January I will be getting the 20" iMac and the Dual 1.8 G5 with the Cinema Display...

Yes... I guess you can say I'm a little excited!!!

three so far:

powerbook 520, wich i bought in 1994 for close to $ 2000, and had to sell (due to a lack of funding) in '95 for roughly $ 600 :/

bondi imac 233mhz, rev b. bought it in 98 and it's still running. i refuse to sell it, since it's a piece of computing history, imho. right now it's my os 9 alernative to my

g4 digital audio 466 mhz, which i've had since 2001. running panther with 640 mb ram, i do all my work on it, surfing, mails etc.

looks like i'm due for another upgrade this year:

either a 1 ghz 12" powerbook, or a dual 2 ghz g5 (probably the rev. b of that model though). and if i'm really lucky, and win the lottery, it'll be both! wheeeeeee

I'm going to count my immediate family in this one.

Our first Mac was a Mac Plus, back when I was eight (I had been using Macs in other contexts since I was four). We kept that thing until it blew up (literally; the power supply gave out and the machine started smoking) back in 1993.

We then got a Power Mac 6100/60. under my guidance, this thing has been tricked out like mad, but still runs in my parents' home.

They got me a PowerTower Pro for college. I burned through that thing in two years (I hope to repair it someday, put Linux on it, and use it as a server, because once again it was a power supply problem).

With that down, I got my Beige G3 (since named Yuzuki). Again, it's tricked out like mad, but still runs at my home.

Two years ago (more or less) I got my latest: Canal, a TiBook/400. I'm hoping to pick up another new Mac in the next year or two. I've also guided my sisters through at least two Mac purchases each, and one of them through three (her first Mac broke before her sister's did): Rev.C iMacs, one Rev.D, and iBooks this past year. And then there's my grandparents' Rev. C iMac.

You could say we're a Mac family, I guess.

Yes, I owned the Pismo 400 twice. Sold it for the iBook 500 and didn't like the iBook and went back to the PowerBook. A couple months later I changed my mind again and bought an iBook 600. I currently have an Alu PowerBook G4 1GHz. Also I've owned a few PCs but those aren't in the list.

14" iBook 700mhz 640mb RAM

The 700mhz iBook is still kicking ass to this day, I use the computer heavily (8 hours a day) and it feels just as fast as the day I bought it. Maybe even moreso now that it's running Panther and has 640mb of RAM
