Expose works normally (windows stay on their respect displays). I have 256MB of vram.

I would be first in line if Apple released a 23 inch iMac. I don't see why not. It's technically possible and they could price it at $2199.00. Stock it with a 500g hard drive and 1Gig memory standard and you couldn't keep the thing on the shelves.

Even the shelves might not be able to lift it. Maybe that's what he meant.

I feel that the bigger the screen gets on the iMac (or any integrated machine) the less I can justify getting it, because I'd want a faster machine every year or so. It's a pity to have to move the screen on as well.

My humble setup including my 20" iMac Core Duo, 17" PowerBook running at 1.67GHz, a 20" Dell FP connected to my Dell Fedora Core 4 Linux box and my iMac. There's a Treo 650 in there somewhere too, another PC that keep at home for running backups from the office over SSH. My dog Rocco is chilling down in the bottom right corner of the photo. Anna Kournikova graces my Dell FP and the lovely Rachel Weisz of The Mummy fame (and others) is featured on my iMac display. Please also note the 10+ year old Bengals coffee mug, and original Apple Macintosh mouse pad that shipped with the original Mac.

I have just joined you in the apple world. I bought my first Mac yesterday!!! I too went for the 20" iMac, but decided against the 256MB upgrade in the end. My wife wanted instant gratification so we took the model that the store had (base model). It will get another GB of memory from crucial later in the month to let me do video work on it.

I have to say I am very happy, and I am starting to get used to the little quirks already. One thing you could help me with though, is - how do you get the functionality of the PC's "end" key?

As soon as I have transfered the all the documents and settings from our ancient Dell PC, I will post Pictures.

If a program doesn't work like you are used to with respect to home and end keys, then try using control + right/left arrow keys. To skip words like in windows I believe it's alt(option) + arrow. These little changes are kinda annoying but you get used to it after a while.

BTW congrats on the new mac. I wish that I had one that's newer than 3 years old.

Here is a old pic of my iMac G5 17 inch in the background, and a friends 20 inch G5. They are both the same specs, but his has 512 mb of RAM and mine has 768. Since this pic was taken last year we have gotten a Netgear Rangemax router.

I'm glad you like your new computer too. I just can't say enough good things about mine. Learning OSX has been a little tricky, but I find it fun. It has so much more functionality than Windows. I never had and serious problems with Windows, but it just wasn't this polished.

I agree. Things that might have been difficult on a windows box are so much easier on OSX. My wife and I have setup different logins, but I have found that we can "share" an iPhoto library. Not being able to do this would have caused problems.

Hello Kitty protects you from prying eyes? Or is just there as decoration? For people with the built-in iSight iMacs; it can't be controlled remotely, without you being aware of the fact, can it? The little green light is on whenever it is active, yes?

Mega - iSight can't be controlled remotely as far as I know, but it freaks me out all the same. Periotically, OSX thinks I should take advantage ("hey, want to make an avatar?") and it springs to life. I prefer not to see sudden images of myself (usually with no makeup and hair all awry), so I keep it covered. So, in answer to your question, Hello Kitty is protecting me from myself.

They are really good. More comfortable than my 280s, which squeezed my head together and were just too closed-sounding for my liking (though I'm keeping them around for circumstances when I need isolation). The one worry is they are rather flimsy — even holding them, they wobble. And they aren't good for transporting as they don't fold like the 280s, but for pure sound and looks, they are awesome. I got mine for $200 on sale at Amazon, so just look for good prices.

768p on this Dell W2606C LCD TV looks great. Unfortunately, while 720p H.264 works fine on the iMac, as soon as I attach the Dell, my G5 2.0 iMac starts to stutter a bit with 720p playback on the Dell (particularly if the video is scaled to 768p). I guess dual screen + scaling is just a little too much for this computer on 720p H.264. A Core Duo iMac shouldn't have any problem with this though.

That Dell LCD looks REALLY wide for its height, as though its like a 30:10 aspect ratio....!

Edit: Just turned my brightness all the way up, and I can just make out there are speakers at each side of the screen! My bad...

Hmmm... I just tried the 720p King Kong H.264 video and it plays just fine. Sweet. However, this one is only 1280x544 @ 24 fps, not the full 1280x720 @ 30 fps NASA video I tried earlier.
