Most apps from Google are beta, Gmail for example.

It's only been 3 years now since Apple switched to Intel. Wait til 10.6 is announced to be Intel only also.

That scroll thing on the thumbnails is bizarre at best. The UI is crap.

It doesn't use native widgets and it didn't find all my images either.

Might be great for Windows but it's too crap for Macs.

Not to play devils advocate or anything, but Safari and iTunes on Windows don't use native widgets either. I know, no one here cares, but still.

I'm thrilled, I love the interface performance and cross platform non-destructive editing without having to go to something like Lightroom.

Nobody here argued that Safari and iTunes on Windows are poster-child Windows applications.

I actually think the widgets in Picasa are decently looking and the UI has a nice fluid feel. Unfortunately the lack of Events makes browsing my images a real pain. Picasa also seems to not keep the originals intact when editing (I didn't actually try to save an edit though to confirm this). I don't like that at all. And I don't see any obvious advantage over iPhoto or any additional feature that is not in iPhoto.

I would say the only people who would be interested in using this are managing their photo library on both Windows and Mac at the same time – maybe keeping it on a file server.

I disagree. I don't know if it found ALL of my images, but if it didn't, it couldn't have missed many. I like the widgets it has and find the interface quite nice. I like the viewer better than iPhotos. I'm still playing with it, but for those reading this, don't take his word for it, try it yourself. It's not a bad program.

Someone opened up the package and it's just the Windows app bundled with WINE (plus probably a few hacks to make it work better). I'll see how it compares to running in Parallels Coherence.

From MacInTouch: "The Windows executables in the cdautorun directory appear to be files for burning a "Gift CD" from Picasa. There are both Mac and Windows slideshow programs, for instance.

The program itself is a native Mac i386 executable linked to Cocoa and WebKit frameworks, among others."

By all means, try it yourself. Don't take his word for how great it is.

I don't know how anyone can like that bizarre scroll thing. And, FYI, it missed hundreds of images which totally misses the point of the app.

For people who say it's missing images, did you tell it to search your whole computer and how long did you wait for it to do so?

I played with it and then I deleted it. About the only thing it has going for it is collages but I can do that in other software. the new iPhoto is going to be awesome.

It already tried doing it's first minor update for me, and the update fails every single time. I love Picasa for Windows but this isn't quite there yet.
