"The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permission for this folder"

I get that when I try to launch iTunes. I trashed it adn reinstalled it, still does the same thing. It was working fine, then one day it just gave me this error. The iTunes' folder is in the applications directory and was never moved or altered. The directory permissions have never been changed.

Any suggestions for me?

Your iTunes music folder (the folder containing the mp3s and the file 'iTunes Music Library') is in the applications directory? That's not the right place for it to be. It should be in your user folder or the Shared user folder.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Your iTunes music folder can be anyplace you want it to be. I had a problem like this when I was using Norton suite programs (notable AntiVirus) in Classic. Until I dumped them, I was getting locked files all over my hard drive.

Either way, check the iTunes application, the files in your music folder, and your iTunes preferences in Library to see if any files are locked (use Show Information). If they are, you can use Show Information to unlock them.

Yes. But I never had this problem before. I can only say that since I upgraded to 10.1.2, that I noticed the problem. (I do not mean that 10.1.2 caused the prob, only a relative date)

It's in my user folder.

I downloaded and installed a fresh copy and still got the same error. I don't use X very often (too slow), so I didn't move anything recently or very often. What folder would be locked? It can't be the locked disk error, but I can't figure out what folder would be locked. I guess I'll check my music folder for permissions, otherwise any otehr ideas?
