Somebody has to dig up the first "No flash on iPhone, WTF?!" threads. I'm curious how Eug did on his predictions on how long it took Apple to kill flash (if only on mobile).

I don't remember exactly, but I think my statement was something along the lines that for a primary machine it would be inadvisable to go 100% Flash-free until about 2012 or 2013. This was in the context of the iPad, not the iPhone though.

What I was thinking if you said it'd take four or five years for it to get flushed, well, you may have hit the jackpot.

Alas, I don't think I made that prediction.
BTW, the ironic part of this is that 2012 actually has Android phones and tablets capable of running flash decently, because flash has been optimized somewhat, and because the CPU/GPU hardware is much faster than it used to be.
However, Adobe dicked around so much with their bloated player that they killed any chance of it succeeding.
BTW, surfing on an iPad in late 2012 is a lot more pleasant than it was in early 2011. The lack of Flash used to annoy me to no end on the iPad back then. Now in late 2012 the annoyance is much more infrequent.
Mind you, I usually surf on my Macs anyway.

No Flash on the iPhone was a pretty big annoyance a few years ago, but it is getting to be less and less so every day.
You still run into the occasional video that won't play, but it's turning into a rarity.
Restaurant websites on the other hand... grumble grumble...

You can still download Firefox and get the flash plugin for it on an Android.

Oh, so I did comment on Flash on general. Here is the quote, in response to Cold Warrior saying that 2009 was the peak for Flash in general, and the iPad and iPhone will never get Flash:
Agreed... which means that Flash will be around for many more years, and will be the only option for some sites for the near future.
Pretty safe prediction, even for back then.

You mean Apple and RIM? BlackBerry never had a Flash player.

I just installed Flash 11.1 on my Nexus 7 (which is quad core) and it actually runs perfectly fine. That's in Firefox though, since Chrome doesn't support the Flash plugin. An added bonus is that Tap-to-activate is an option for it, so unwanted Flash ads won't bog down the browser.
We shall see, but I'm thinking Chrome (or possibly Dolphin) will be my primary Nexus 7 browser, but with Firefox/Flash as a backup.
