Just when you thought it was dead... I'm gonna resrect this classic wonder for OS X. It stopped at 10.1 and there has been a small group wanting it back. Well fear no more, I'm half way done. I started a few hours ago and I'm 60% done.
I'm not going to make it spiffier, it will be the original just pantherized. Expect it in the coming days if I can get a hold of the original creator that is.

it's been done...
the original author is known as zimphire on the boards here.
i dunno if anyone has ever asked him tho but there have been one or two unauthorized updates pop up.
i guess it won't hurt to ask him tho...

I don't know yet, I've left them for last. I spent about 2 hours on it today and all but the segment tabs/buttons are done. If I'm feeling generous I'll throw in an ichat/safari skin. Anybody have any ideas as to how Metal windows should look or perhaps a screen of theme running in 10.1 with a metal window?

If I remember correctly, metal windows were all hard coded in 10.1, so themers could not change them. I say just make the metal windows look exactly like the aqua windows, except make the titlebar 1 pixel taller so that the widgets don't look off-center.

I can pretty much assure you that you will not get permission from Zim to release it. He's probably planning to do so himself.

I don't think he has time, what with posting on MacNN 27 times a day like he does. He is officially clinically insane, remember?

I tried porting the rhodium edge port that came out for 10.2, and it was pretty hard. The x-+ widgets would have to be changed significantly, as the ones in the 10.2 version really need the bigger size of jaguar. If the titlebar were to be significantly redesigned, it would be very doable.

the titlebar is fine. if Latium looks fine, Rhodium Edge will look fine.

Zim... according to you on some Sosumi thread I started a few months ago, it's technically not your work, either. Something about you ripping vast amounts of the graphics directly from the Mac OS X public beta...?
You say you might release it...If your actually planning on re-releasing it, then do it. If you aren't, pass it on to Chris. Sorry to sound harsh, but there's plenty of demand for this theme and if you aren't doing it yourself, then putting it up for adoption so to speak is the best solution.
Edit: Chris... you kind of made a wee-bitty mistake. The lighting on the tabs is coming from both sides... the right side should be shaded like the button.

Zimphire to be honest I had no idea it was your theme when I started this , is almost been a popular theme and it seemed doomed. The theme is complete and it took me 2 days, you've had it on the back burner for 6 months. Can't you give permission and give people what they want.
I'd seen a version on resex by Kevin Knopp... is this you?

Sounds true to me, this isn't some half-assed port like we've seen in the past ether... I don't see the harm, and he would get full credit for the original. Also if it's true that most of the graphics are from the first OS X preview releases then no one person really has the rights to it.

My thoughts exactly half of the graphics were borrowed if you will, I tried contacting Zimphire but his PM box is full and his Email is hidden so contacting him is impossible. I've tired over AIM for the last few days too with no luck. I may come off like a cocky smartass but I'm not I just want the theme to be out for everyone to use.

Well, if we're going to take this little discussion to that point, you might as well say that releasing Sosumi is an infringement on Apple's property, but then again, so are Aqua mods. I agree with NetworkShadow and Chris on this one; since the theme itself wasn't "ours" to begin with, anyone should be "allowed" to "release" it. Unless Zimphire's version is waay cooler in some way (Sorry Chris, have to account for the possibility ), Zimphire shouldn't be able to stop Chris from "releasing" "his" "version".
(Note the excessive usage of "air quotes" - lighten up guys! )

Nope, if someone said that, they are lying. It was all 100% made by me.

I've been waiting on Shapeshifter 1.5 to see if a few things will work.
Really, if someone wants to make a OS 9 like theme, go do it. Max did. Just don't use my resources.

I have had my AIM up for weeks. My PM box hasn't been full for a few days.
The theme will be out. Just not at the moment.
You want to make a theme? Go do it man. Make one all on your own.
You can claim it's 100% original.
I know a lot of people that don't get into themeing for this reason. They are sick of people "copying" their work first, then asking second.
You really need to get a hold of the original owners of said themes before making any public issues about it. It's not only the right thing to do, it's respecting those who have taken the time out to do these things from scratch.
Sosumi took me over 5 months to finish (OS X themeing was crude, and not everything was figured out like it is now)
There needs to be more respect going on in the theming community and less "we don't care screw that guy!" type mentality.

I have to agree with you on that note. If it was'nt for themers i would be stuck with default look on my desktop cuz i not know how to theme myself.
I just want to make a big SHOUT OUT to all themers and say thnx.
