Two totally bizarre things.

The band has consistently been getting likes on Facebook from Southeast Asia. They never respond if we try to communicate with them. We once paid for a month of Facebook pushing us. It got us likes, but we didn't continue because the likes felt fake. I have this weird suspicion Facebook Vietnam was never told we stopped paying. Edit: of our last 12 likes, 8 are from Southeast Asia.

The other bizarre thing is 15+ years ago the band leader and myself did art video together, under the brand Chicago Avenue Films. That fizzled, and we let our hold on the domain name expire.

Someone else picked it up, which isn't that bizarre. What is bizarre is whover took it over filled it with a review of our stuff.

My dad runs a website with his music available as MP3 downloads. The vast majority of his traffic is from Asia.

Maybe there are just a bunch of asian music lovers that want to try and find unique "western" music?

I think they'd love us in Asia, but the idea we somehow kicked off this grassroots phenomenon seems too good to be true.

And, turns out it is. I finally cracked the code. There's a pop-music aficionado outfit in Myanmar called Candy Town. These are all people getting us by mistake.

Be sure to have some music and/or performance samples on your site. This is an opportunity - those visitors just may decide your CT is the real one. And the Myanmar CT outfit is playing off your fame.

A three-year-old we auditioned today had a pee explosion in the bathroom before her father could wrestle her into place.

Nah. Not a sixteenth in there.

How does she handle the piano notation?

With wailing and gnashing of teeth.

It drives the orchestral musicians batshit.

For composing and arranging, he uses Garage Band, which for him is a more "direct drive to the brain" experience.

He hates Logic.

Actually, I asked the band leader and the wailing is less over the piano notation than how poor a job Garage Band does at realizing syncopation is happening.

I can see how my last post came off as a self-serving explanation, but it was more intended as a hasty correction of the broad mistake I had made by claiming it was the piano notation and not the syncopation causing the orchestrals to get all bunched.

The problem isn't Garage Band, it's the band leader, and he's up-front about it.

1) He can't read music, so he can't avail himself of dedicated notation software.

2) He isn't Mr. Technical piano player, and lacks confidence he could play with the precision needed to take advantage of a more accurate transcriber.

So, the problem isn't the Garage Band transcriber sucks, it's that a sucky transcriber appears to be his best option.

The dream studio as originally envisioned... ultra portable.

Just a recorder with built-in pres, and the headphone mixer. I plan on shoving it vertically up against a wall.

Add laptop, mixer stations, a dream mic closet and go.

I'll note this is along the lines of what Spheric originally recommended, but we all know by now I don't listen.

Tests are tomorrow, first round of recording is Sunday.

It's only been four years.

And it's not a LIO-8, but that's okay.

That's why I said "along the lines".

And as we've determined, I don't listen.

I went with the Apogee because of familiarity, and, ummm... Tbolt.

Yeah. Metric Halo will be going USB-C come the 3d upgrade (which is $99 for any interface bought today), but we have no idea when that is actually coming…it's been teased for years.

MH Labs invariably delivers on their promises (my fifteen-year-old Mobile I/O 2882 is still up to current spec due to their absolutely insane upgrade policies, and will be eligible for the 3d upgrade), but man, do they take their sweet time...

While I'm giving my setup aces for portability, man it's a knucklebuster trying to plug stuff in.

I may have to sacrifice some portability and get a 3 or 4U model just for maneuvering room.

The bestest equipment there is won't help if you can't plug stuff into it. With my ungainly mitts, I'd need a lot of space for ANY connection, let alone a bunch, so I feel your pain (and though it's been quite a while, that's actually literally).

Plugging in turned out better than I anticipated, but unplugging may be rough. Especially all the Ethernet cable for the headphone mixers.

Recording went relatively okay. I knocked loose the optical cable connecting the recorder to the headphone mixer, which broke everything until I tracked it down.

Right off the bat I needed to confront the session being canceled because of my ****up, which rattled me enough the rest was less enjoyable than it could have been.

I did listen to Spheric way back when, and picked up a pile of Sennheiser 441s, which were the clear victors in our quick and dirty mic shootout.

So, thank you yet again, Spheric.

Been waiting for months, but now my big sound upgrade, a Wilson WAMM Master Chronosonic system, is on the way, shipping from Provo. As part of the "product", a technician will be staying for a couple days to customize and calibrate the install. I'm a-shiver with antici.. pation.

Wow, that's some serious shit right there.

I wouldn't call them ugly, but they'd clash with any "normal" decor.

Presumably not a problem for most shoppers in that market to nuke a whole room and get it repaved by an acoustics consultant and a nerdy decorator.

My first thought: why is he standing up a metal detector, on it's pickup loop?
Second thought: I wonder if he uses that password anywhere else.
