i picked up an old duo 2300c on ebay with hopes of using it for reading news on the internet...anyways it has 8.5 installed on it and apparently the internal isn't on the modem list in the modem control panel. so i got a US Robotics external (serial port) modem its the sportster modem..i figured it would work because there is a US Robotics Universal modem listed in the modem control panel but such as life it doesn't work. i get this message " the modem is not responding properly" check ports and all that junk....do i really need to install the software for this modem to get it to work? i dont have a dock. cd rom or floppy drive. help! if i can't get it to work with what i have its going back on ebay

thanks all
