I hate ms products anyway, but there are film files that I can only get in .wmv.... they are encoded at 250 but are choppy all the way through and no sound!

what to do?

is it the file or the player??

...which is *not* significantly better.

I have yet to see a WM file that will play through without bad (like, 15-second) hangs in the video.

POS.

YMMV.

I try to use WMP for X too and I was wondering if the WMP works embedded in an IE page, like for example, When I try to play a music video at rollingstone.com, it says "Sorry Embedded Windows Media Player does not support your browser." Did I install WMP right? It seems like WMP and IE should work together seemlessly since there both MS!

WMP is at fault. I've seen it run on a dual 800 G4, and it's jsut as choppy and disgusting as on my iMac 400. Very poor program compared to Quicktime Player. I wish Microsoft would licescen the various codecs in windows media files so Quicktime could play it.
