I downloaded the Driver game demo for OS 9 and when I try to run the game I get "this cannot be ran under classic mode"

Any idea on why it's like this? I hear it's a great game and I'd think my G4 would be able to handle it under classic. I don't like to reboot into 9 just to play games, so this is a major bummer.

Anyone have any tricks to make it work, or know if we'll ever see an OS X port?

The full game chokes in Classic too; and, no, an update for OS X is highly unlikely (I'd love to be wrong).
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

I have the full version(CD) of driver running on a PPC 7300, OS 9.1 and it took me 3 weeks just to figure out how to get out of the garage. Don't get discouraged. It can be run on Classic mode. What I need is a wheel. I have all the goodies, joy sticks, pedal's, and throttle controller's but no wheel. Keep trying.

You've got it to run under classic in 10.1? I've got 9.2.2 installed for classic compatability in 10.1.3 and it doesn't work.

I've been looking around. I really want to play this game. At the store it was so fun with the wheel and pedals, it was realistic even! That game deserves a port to OS X, it's just too fun!

Problem-Demo first class :-(

It did not run under OSX, and when I played it under OS 9.2.2,
it ran bumpy and crashed after 12 seconds ...

Try The Reckless-Driving Demo, that one works under X and 9,
and is great fun too ;-)

Hell yes! It took me so long time to pass the garage level. It's like a chore

However I really like the game. Lot of strategy to think of. I like the freeness of that game and I hope GTA 3 will be ported to mac somehow or perhaps gamecube

Yes, very cool demo. Almost bought the game, and I'm trying to remember why I didn't. . .

Well, the problem here is definitely in the DEMO part then,
seems like the real stuff has got new set of wheels ???

The demo looks cool to me too, but when it keeps crashing ...
I prefer to crash myself on purpose in reckless driving then ;-)

Did you know you can play in San Francisco too with the demo?
Just go to the "Scripts" map located in your driver folder, then "missions", and swap the names of the folders.
If you edit those files, you can even more;
Explore whole Miami without time limit or cops, just set cops_no and adjust time limit some numbers, it's all very clear

You can even drive all the cars, drive at night, at dusk, etc

I really had fun with editing those files before I bought the full version
Btw, with a bit editing in those files you can easily pass the garage level too, however, it's a lot more fun to try it without "cheating"
I'm too lazy to subscribe to this forum, so I'm a guest.
I'm too lazy to deal with errors, so I bought a Mac.

Anyone know if 4x4 Evo 2 is similar to Driver? It seems that Classic Mac OS had too many racing games and now OS X has none :-(
