If AT&T were to make this also available to the iPhone, they would but a serious dent in the 3G argument. I can almost always find a site with AT&T hotspot support, heck isn't there a McDonald's on every street corner these days?

I'm considering switching to ATT DSL for this. They offer the Elite package (6mbps/768kbps) for $34.99/month which is about $15/month cheaper than Time Warner cable. And if I get the hotspots for my iPhone along with it, then more power to them.

I would be very suprised if this was not made available to iPhone customers. After all, we are paying them for data access.

I used to pay about $4 a month on top of my DSL bill for this feature. I need to check my current account to see if it's still there, what with "The Change" and all (SBC to AT&T). It was sweet!
Added: I STILL have that, and it's less than $2 a month. A nice DSL package has its advantages.

Hmm. I have SBC DSL. I wonder if this would work. I'd really like to be able to use wi-fi at Barnes & Noble.

I am now surfing on my Powerbook at a Barnes & Noble using AT&T wifi. I just selected "@sbcglobal.net" (which is what my SBC DSL email ends with), typed in my user name and password, and I was on. Very nice. The only problem is that it requires that you sign in with a web page, which might be a little bit of a pain to do each time with the iPhone.

Just use your iPhone. Open Google maps and type in the city you want. Then, type in at&t wifi and that will bring up the wifi spots in your area. Of course that type of search works for anything, like coffee shops, auto repair facilities, zoos, etc...
I love the map feature!
