Problem:
Clean install of OS 9.2.2 on a G4/400 - no other non-Apple software installed..
Install HP Laserjet software version 1.1.3 from CD or website.
Reboot.
Error comes up saying something to the effect of "The printer driver could not be loaded etc. etc."
Then empty dialog box appears with an OK button that can't be clicked. Dialog box seems to be transparent in that I can select items that are in windows behind the dialog box. Must force restart the mac and disable hp extensions to get my mac back.
Tried everything I can think of and nothing will make this printer work. Anybody know the secret?

Solution:
Return the HP printer and buy another brand. In my case, the Brother HL-1435 worked like a charm. A guy on the HP Forum who works for HP but never identified himself as such, tried to offer a number of suggestions, none of which worked.
My recommendation: avoid HP unless you are running OS X or Windoze. Then maybe it will work.

Can't see anything higher than 1.1.1 on HP's site, maybe 1.1.3 has been removed as it was fubared?
