Im on an older iMac : 27" late 2013 3.5Ghz core i7 w 16 GB ram
running safari 9.1.3 ( there are no further updates I can find for this iMac
YouTube was runnning fine until a couple of days ago
now when i go to my bookmarks I get this message :
" your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available
click here to visit our frequyently asked questions about HRML 5 vodeo "
however , when I embed these same links in a cooking forum I frequent ,
the link on the thread has the image of the Youtube video and it plays fine in this same set up.
any ideas on what changed ? I think it has to do w YouTube and perhaps some sort of ad blocking
that they now refuse to accept.
I DL'd Opera and the videos play fine in that program
but a get a slew of vidoe ads I have to watch first.
any help getting back to watching yhoutube as I did in the past would be helkpful
and yes the imac is old, but Im old a nice match !
I amconsidering getting a new iMac .............
many thaks

What OS are you running? Your iMac supports Sierra (and High Sierra). I have Safari 10.1.2 on Sierra. When I check my old Yosemite partition, it has Safari 10.0.3.
If you really are limited to Safari 9.1.3, then you must be on an unsupported older OS. But this sounds more like a glitch. Could your Dock icon be connected to an old Safari on another volume, with modern Safari in your Applications folder?

my safari worked fine on Bookmarks to YouiTube then
I got the safari doesnt support HTML etc
but it clearly does vis ref's to those same youtube vids vis the foodforum I go to.
the dock safari brings up 9.1.3 and that same safari runs the youtube ref'd in the newsgroup
this is so odd
the app safari is the same.
but a good suggestion !
I have a genius appt wed
and Im putting 10.12 on an external drive to see if 10.12 runs all my sofware
Unison ( legacy ) and EyeTV etc
I was warned that 10.10 - 12 mightrun very slowly on this iMac ( 2013 4 K monitor screen
Id sure love to fix this one problem !

I ran into this issue a few days ago as well. Try disabling clicktoflash if you have that extension running.
