LOL, so from that perspective, maybe GE should get Alstom.

It will help Siemens more that getting it themselves

France is f$&@ed.

Their attitude and arrogance will destroy their economy.
I think it's too late already. That thinking and attitude has spread like cancer.

I don't think that it's f$&@ed, but the next gov (probably not going to be the socialists) will have some hard work. Halving the number of government employees would drop the Frog borrowing rate by 1% (I'm joking but probably not far off). Scraping the 35 hour week (which only seems to apply to gov employees anyway), would drop it another 0.5%.

France has some good, world renowned savvy in areas like aerospace (including satellites), nuclear power and high speed trains. But their politicians get in the way of business. When they figure out that captains of industry would be better for their country than Enarques, they might get themselves out of the present mess.

I'm not sure it can be salvaged. The French had too much cool aid, the people actually believe they deserve 35hr/week, at high minimum wage etc...

It's rather rare that people realize their folly until the crash is unavoidable.

This thread move strikes me as capricious. Is there something I'm missing?

Isn't this about how the French government and their rules are impacting business? Doesn't that make it political from the start?

I can make anything political.

I think the spirit behind the PWL is to keep the regular Lounge from turning into a sewer. I may have misread how volatile this subject is, but I feel the move is more representative of the letter, rather than the aforementioned spirit.

Sorry, I benefited from a national holiday and one of the days we get off for doing more than the 35 hour week.

I was being facetious with my maybe reply btw.

Looks like Montebourg will get egg on his face. Again. He only ever open his mouth to swap feet.
