Riiiiiiiight...
Spoiled 15 yr-old can have my sw for free too. Been there, done that. I don't ****ing care.
Why do you think Photoshop has such a strong user base? 50% of its userbase is probably pirated. That's just a fact, man. And littles kids who pirate it, will one day be the people in charge of buying software in company and buy adobe a corp. license, which is much $$$.

I gave so many free licenses. Basically ANYONE who asks me personally will get one free.
I lose nothing when I give a license. NOTHING. I don't ****ing CARE.
Poor people are free to email me, and if they say they love my app but truly can't afford it, they'll have a license for free.
I also accept if they do it via piracy.

You're lying. I asked you for a free licence once. No reply, no licence.

Well NOTHING but a potential sale.
At any rate I won my license from your app, if I had pirated it I might feel a bit guilty just because I know you are from these boards.

Actually its not likely that they'll lose a sale either. think about it, if someone who is poor or who wont spend money on the product, is pirating it, then either way the company isnt getting any money from that person.
Either the person wont buy it and wont use it or the person wont buy it but will use it via pirating.
So how could you say the company is losing a sale from them? Granted there are people who are willing and able to buy it, and may consider doing so if piracy is too much of a hassle for them, but I'm not talking about these types of people, I'm talking about those who dont think the product is worth its price and will pirate it instead.

I know tons of rich kids who pirate software. In high school we had a guy in my Advance Production class who had a high end computer at home... and go figure he didn't pay for any of the 3D software he used to one up me for the high mark award.... course... I did pay for my copy of Macromedia's tools so he only beat me by 1%

using software isnt the same as using a table or something. The table can become weak over time, whereas using software doesnt impact the product or take away from its life, (unless you are using disks or something)
If I walked into a hardware store and used some glue in the store and put it back, of course they'd lose money, since they product has been opened, used, etc.
But software is a resource that can be used infinitely and doesnt have a lifecycle (other than when it gets old so ppl buy the newer version)

the second part of my post with the poor people was just an example. Read what i wrote earlier in my post:
"if someone who is poor or who wont spend money on the product"
My point is, if someone doesnt want to buy the product and they dont think it will ever be worth their money to, then they wont buy it. whether they pirate it or not, either way, the business isn't going to be getting any profit from that person.

If 15 year olds had lots of disposable income on average, I imagine they'd be less inclined to pirate. The same can be said for any age cohort because age really does not have much to do with it. And if there's a strong statistical correlation between torrenting and youth, it would mostly be due to the fact that younger people are more comfortable with technology and more apt to take advantage of the opportunities it affords. I do not support copyright infringement, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

I used to pirate alot. As soon as I got a job and started making money, I started paying for software. It's as simple as a debit card made it easy to pay for software, and I couldn't really before. Plus getting updates without something breaking is great.

Somehow I don't think that RIAA will care and they will use low blow tactics like threats to cut off trade to get their way.
I really can't decide what makes the US look worse, Bush or the RIAA.

The RIAA is horrible but the rest of the world can see Americans don't support them.
Bush is horrible, and many idiots support him. That makes it worse. Thanks for solving that one for me.

Bush runs a democracy, so at least he's enforcing the 'will of the people.'
The RIAA isn't even a corporation. It's a big stack of money throwing its weight around, and in 2 years or 6 years or whatever, no one can change that.

Not the PL, people.
Though I would like to note on a purely factual basis that the kind of Democracy we have in America doesn't actually guarantee our leaders will always follow the "will of the people." Once in office, the president doesn't have to ask the people for their opinion.

And representatives can vote along party lines no matter what their district actually thinks. We need politicians that will represent their people, not their party.

People who pirate keep making that pathetic rationalization. It doesn't work. How did a poor person purchase a computer? Whatever method you used to get money to the computer, use the same method to get software.
If pirating was impossible, people who were "too poor to pay for software" would give up something else to get the money, like eating out, beer, movies, whatever, get a higher paying job, etc.. When you don't have unlimited funds you make choices. Prioritize what you should spend your money on. If software doesn't rank high enough, then why would you think you deserve it for free? But today, since pirating is easy and people somehow think they deserve something simply by wanting it, will pirate software and then rationalize it with lame excuses like "I would never been able to pay for it anyway." These people could have paid for it, they just chose to spend their money elsewhere.
If you really can't afford it, do without it. At least if you don't have software, you'll have character and integrity.
