Okay, so here's what I did. I was doing some general system clean up in both OS X and Classic. Right before I was to boot back to OS X and go about business as usual I ran Norton Disk Doctor just to make sure all was well. Now I don't know if I mis-typed something or whatever but when I booted back to OS X I got the welcome screen that you would get when you first install the software. Now, no programs were lost so at first it was just an inconvience. HOWEVER, when I loaded Mail, all my preferences were gone as well as saved email that I absolutely needed. I have no idea how to go about recovering that or if it's even possible. I somehow lost .mp3's and web page bookmarks but that's okay, I can get them back. The email is what I *REALLY* need!!
I'm sure that this has happened to someone before but I don't have a clue what to do. Any help in this matter would be apreciated. Thanks a lot...

You didn't lose ANYTHING. The reason that you don't "have" your mail and web bookmarks is that when you entered your information into the "Welcome to Mac OS X" setup assistant, YOU CREATED A NEW USER. If you want the preferences for that user back, you have to LOG IN with that user.
