(ca. 6 MB MPEG)

Nice ad because it took me a few seconds to figure it out when watching it. Looks like the A340 is for the long haul. To say the least.

Comments?

[edit: that't the 340-500 not the 350 - sorry it's early in the morning, the ad is still damn cool!!]

It kind of chokes me up, to see all the places I love mapped out like that, with great music.

A great idea for an ad, I want a 1 minute cinema version with a gorgeous landing, amazing.

Same here.. all these places. Great idea for a commercial and really uplifting. The A340 sliding over the top edge of the screen into the sun is damn cool too - if a bit computery

Two different Macs.
Three different browsers.
No deal.

On Safari and Firefox (Mac #1), I just get the broken QuickTime document icon.
On IE (Mac #1), about 10 sec. of the video downloads... Then it stops.

On Mac #2, in all three browsers, I get anywhere between 5 and 15 sec. of the spot... Then it stops.

Broadband connection on both machines.

I tried to go in legit through the Airbus website and same thing... Not just for the "Clouds" spot, but for all the available videos and commercials in their Media Centre.

What gives?

Option-click on the link. Don't load it in the Quicktime plugin.

Looks like our WebSense filter at work is doing the same thing cause I can get to the main Airbus site with no problem. Anyone want to donwload it to a .Mac site for those of us behind a web filter.

<OT>
Why would the term "advertising" trigger the web filter?

Wow! That's a cool ad. Superbowl quality. Makes you think just a bit, imagine and leaves you with a good feeling! No cheesy voice-overs or anything. Not a 1984 class ad but still way up there
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

Plus cool ads are fun. Adbusters was fun until they went stupid.

Right on!

I may already have the song in question, but then again I may not. I don't have a public folder and sharing it with others is illegal and I would never do such a thing >cough< or use Xfactor or any gnutella client like people of inferior moral fiber.

I really liked that commercial as well. I liked the stars and moon rising on the horizon...very cool.

It reminds me of the 'Think Different' commercial in some ways.I guess where 'Think Different' highlighted the people, this one highlights the places. As a commercial, it's really refreshing to all the quirky moderately humourous commercials we see now. very nice. And seems very distinctively European.

Personally, i love the A320 and A340. And yes, that song sounds awesome...sounds perfect for night driving, running anything. i wants. never heard of the divine comedy, im gonna have to read up on them now.

PS>> i think i pointed out a couple of yeas ago a 'commercial' of sorts for South African airlines, which had just purchased some A340s. It was during the world cup cricket finals held in South Afica, and i think Australia and India were playing. The A340s flew low and over the stadium a coule of times...that was terrific advertising imo. i'll try and find the link somewhere.

I'll leave it up for a couple days, then take it down. Just don't use my 7GB of traffic.

I just wanted to say "thank you". After reading your thread half a year ago, The Dinine Comedy is now one of my favorite bands. The music is superb, I love it.

Maybe instead of advertising they ought to start making planes that can actually land.

Airbus have a much better safely ratio than Boeing aircraft, they certainly feel a lot safer to fly in, check out the way the overhead lockers vibrate on take off in a 747.

I wonder how that plane would have landed if the nose gear were stuck in a 20 degree off center. With it at a 90 degree off center, it just ground into the runway, but with a 20 degree, what would happen?

You know they actually took into account this scenario and designed the plane to be able to land that way?

I would say that at the speed the plane touches ground, this would have almost no impact. Imagine what force is needed to change the direction of some thousand tons steel travelling at some hundred km per hour...

It did land and nobody got hurt. Which means Airbus did a good job.
