Still, taking off a third before the battle begins is impressive.

Ranvier and I did some testing after the latest warrior nerf, and he was beating me consistently, whereas before I was destroying him. Of course, warriors have Retaliation now, which is basically a "kill the rogue for free once every 30 minutes" button. It basically gives me a free hit for every hit I take, but my hits do a lot more damage than yours.

Rogues seem to be a very good class now for soloing and dealing damage. When I was going into an instance towards the end, I'd take a rogue before a mage because the rogue could better control his aggro, and with the warrior aggro changes, less mobs to hold aggro on is better.
Yeah...I don't expect to beat warriors easily. I'll have to think of some other strategy for warriors.

Interesting build... Would be great for soloing, but as you say, next to useless in instances and raids...

With Sosume, I went as follows:

3 Eviscerate
5 Remorseless attacks
3 Ruthlessness
1 Relentless strikes
5 Malice
5 Lethality
1 Cold Blood

3 Gouge
3 Sinister Strike
3 Backstab
5 Deflection
5 Dagger specialisation
1 Riposte
1 Precision

1 Rapid concealment
3 Master of deception
1 camoflage

I went for all out damage, and it worked a treat! The only problem I had was agro... whenever I really unleashed properly with a cold blood 5 point evis, or even a 4+ evis with some of the talents (such as 100% damage in next hit after a kill etc) I instantly took agro from the party... every single time!

In the end I had to hit 'expose armor' and 'feint' a *lot* in instances to try and balance things, but even then it was a challenge to keep mobs of me...

Well...I'm buying the game first thing tomorrow. If anyone wants to start a rogue guild with me on an Eastern PvP server, I'd be happy.

Nothing like a bunch of rogues sapping different players and then ganging up on the player that can't rely on his allies anymore.

I'm thinking 3 properly built rogues can easily wipe out groups of 6 players of the same level. Non-rogues may apply and provide tank assistance as well as the needed distraction.

"Oh look, we're 6 and there's a lone warrior and mage walking towards us. We can take 'em no problem. Let's get 'em guys... guys?! Uh? Oh, wtf, what's this? What's this dagger doing sticking out of my back?"

*sapped players waking up from concussion*

"Whoa, I had the craziest drea...what the hey? What's with that dagger sticking out of their ba...oh...ouch...now I understand what's going on."

Too bad sap and blind doesn't actually make the game screen go black for those that are affected.

If someone is going to spend that much time, I'd also recommend playing at least another character and taking advantage of the 'rested' state for leaving characters logged out at inns.

Then you can level two characters really fast.

Sure thing. The rested bonus is very helpful passed the 30s now due to the increase in XP per lvl.

I was just a little perturbed by someone posting that he has 70 days /played on one character and considers himself a "Winner". The other poster was mentioning basically how enjoyable or addicting the game is after playing just 5 days in OB.

Which Mac guild has Alliance Pvp? I've decided to be a Night Elf Hunter, but would rather play on a PvP server (unlike Reservoir DogCows).

I had to work while he was still leveling, so he gained more than enough rested experience while I wasn't playing.

Less than half of that played time was spent leveling. The rest of the time was spent becoming one of the top 3 best rogues on the server. =)

I had a couple other characters.

LOL...that was funny.

Not sure if it was totally factual but...

I think Shamans are up there with Paladins. And the PvP server I was on during Open Beta, the zerging and ganking was almost exclusively coming from the Horde side...it was so bad at one point that they managed to storm Auberdine...Auberdine for crying out loud.

Is there a finite number of talent points you can get? Do you hit a ceiling? Or if you play long enough will you max all your talents out?

Heh, you wish (me too)...but if that happened, everyone would be the same. I really like the idea that you only get a total of 51 talent points since it adds to the uniqueness. I wish Blizzard would take it a step further and allow more uniqueness by making the class/race stats more variable. Right now an slim and flexible elf rogue is pretty much exactly the same as a short and fat dwarf rogue in terms of agility...I think that's wrong on so many levels but in a way I understand why Blizzard did that...everyone would pick the most agile class for rogues and that would take away from uniqueness making my original comment invalid.

I'll be getting this game tonight, and apparently blizzard is opening the servers at 3AM EST. Anybody who wants to do alliance PvP on the east coast can get in touch with me over AIM at greggbot . I'm going to be a night elf rogue and grouping is definitely the best way to level up. If we get enough people we can startup a guild, or just get a good sized friends list going for later on in the game.

Yeah that's good that there is a max. It would be nice if you could shuffle them around a bit later, or if they 'sprouted' a bit after you maxed them out... like after you have a certain talent set for a few levels you may get a (semi) unique skill or talent due to your final setup.

~BS

[edit]All the more reason I should take a look at the talent points and figure out what I want. Any resources?[/edit]

At the time I made it, it was very true. =P Since then Paladins have gotten better (Though it will take time for people to adjust to the changes), Warlocks have gotten better, and Sen'Jin has (FINALLY) gotten a graveyard.

Ohhh oh oh oh. Not sure where you were playing, but all Alliance has ever done in my experience is zerg. Even in the rare ocurance you do get one of them 1v1, before you can kill them there are already 2 more running at you out of the blue.

A 1v1, 2v2, and so on fight is impossible. I have never been in a battle with alliance where I was not outnumbered. Though I have lost very few of those battles. =\

In my eyes, Alliance symbolizes PC users. And not only because they are 95% of all characters. =P

I think I was playing on Test 4 or 7 (don't remember which) during the Open Beta...and on that server, it seemed like the Horde was outnumbering the Alliance.

I'd like to be a part of a Rogue guild, on a PvP server.

Unfortunately, the Dogcows aren't going anywhere near Alliance PvP, and I vastly prefer the Alliance (not for the reasons Xidius might think... I just hate all the races).

Horsepoo, if you start an Alliance PvP character on a server that doesn't conflict with the Horde PvP Dogcow server, then I'm up for joining you.

My box isn't scheduled to arrive until either the 26th or the 29th (damn you Amazon!). But in reality it doesn't make a difference because I'm going home in a few hours and not coming back until Sunday night . So even if I had my box now, I wouldn't be able to play until Sunday night . Gah I don't know if I can wait that long!

I'm going to get my copy at Best Buy, but not for another week! I'm on vacation now, so it'll take me a little bit before I can join the action. Because of my nasty FF character, I'm biased to become a Paladin. That's what I'll be in the game.

Now, when some of you say, for instance, 40 days of playing time...does that mean 40 days of being logged in playing? I find that hard to believe that someone would spend so much time on a character to later find that the character will be erased (at the end of beta testing). I've played 10 days total of FF, and I feel like I've dedicated my entire life to the game.

During OB I think I racked up about about 50 hours... It's sick, I know, but I couldn't help it! It was so addicting! I pulled far too many all-nighters on weeknights! playing this game...

Yay, US release is today! Makes me feel happy that I'm European. I can finally wait for the German and French translations to be finished, so I can order the English version of the game from amazon.co.uk in 3 months. You know what they say? Anticipation is best! Wooo!

We Europeans can pre-order the game next 26th and with that we get a slot in the Final Beta for the European servers, starting in December, so the wait is not that much if you pre-order the game, I will.

Speaking of that, is here any group of macnn'ers gathering for a Guild in European WoW?

I just managed to create my characters:

(PvP) Horde: Frostwolf (with the Dogcows)

(PvP) Alliance: Ner'zhul

(PvE) Alliance: Whisperwind (with the Dogcows)

I'm not sure if these arrangements are final though... I probably won't be in-game for a few days anyway. Exams.

Ha ha. Do you know what they did in Germany? There were pre-orders for the pre-order! How asinine is that? The kit, which should have been available after the 26th, is already sold-out at most of the German retailers (Amazon, EBGames, Okay Games...).

Bah, I don't want the German version anyway.

You know, I have pre-ordered the pre-order

About the German version, from the press release found here:

The game and packaging will be fully localised in English, French and German; a localised box and manual will be available for Spanish and Italian players. For the initial shipment, the standard edition of World of Warcraft will be available in all of the aforementioned languages in two unique box covers representing the major factions of the world Alliance and Horde. Both boxes include the full version of the game on four CD-ROM disks.
So you will be able to use the English version of the game regardless if you buy it in Germany or any European country.

Didn't Open Beta only last like 3 days? I didn't even play during it. My experience comes from Closed beta which had far more people, at much higher levels.

Well, I can. That's what I was told by a friend who works at the Spanish retailer for the pre-orders (not a normal average Joe on a shop, he is one of the admins there), that the pre-order will work for either the normal or collectors edition. It works like this, you pay 10 euro for the pre-order, you get the cd-key for the Final Beta and a CD with the Soundtrack (as a gift of sorts), then when the game launchs you get yours with a 10 euro discount.

OK This game is going to be the end of me. I can see being addicted forever for this thing. I should probably try to cut down my play on it to 2 days a month.

BTW the game works pretty well on my 30" Cinema display on NVidia 6800 Ultra DDL. Am I the only one playing at 2560x1600 resolution?

The one problem I had was to get the NVidia shaders enabled in the Video controls. Do the Macs not support the Shader effects?

"The one problem I had was to get the NVidia shaders enabled in the Video controls. Do the Macs not support the Shader effects?"

Apparently either ATI or Nvidia's Mac drivers were too buggy and didn't work with pixel shading, so Blizzard disabled those options on the Mac client until the drivers get fixed.
