This seems like a blitheringly simple procedure, yet for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it. Either it's pebkac, or Apple really needs to automate tasks less. Probably the former. Essentially, I'm trying to shorten the file address for images that I publish using my homepage. Every time I do so the program churns out a prosthetic address that looks something like this:

http://homepage.mac.com/tirinal/.cv/...mb_105_140.jpg

Can I just have everything past the first /tirinal except for the file name and extension go away, or do I not have any choice in the matter?

which program is it that is "churning out" these URLs? And where is it churning them out to?

I guess I'm not following.

(there are many things you can do to batch-rename files if that's what you're looking to do - just do a quick search on version tracker, or look into how to use the terminal)

cpac, look at the URL closely. The filename is <not the problem.

If you place the file in the iDisk's "Sites" folder, you can access it with this kind of URL:
http://homepage.mac.com/yourusername/filename.extension

Are you sure this works for image files as well? It didn't register for me and just gave me the standard 'cannot find homepage' error.

Thanks for your help though.

Just mount your iDisk and drag the image in to your "sites" folder

Reload.

Once I've synced up the iDisk, I usually need to load an image a second time in the browser before it will work.

You can name the file whatever you want. No need to put the image's dimensions in the filename.
