I've got a TiBook, and my friend has a Rev A 12", and he's always going on about his "better" keys. Having looked at the 17" too, I reckon the TiBook has the best layout, with the black complementing the design perfectly. Frankly I think the alubooks just don't look anywhere near as nice, but that's just me!

Compared to the Ti's, the Al books have far superior keyboards. Overall though, the Wallstreets had the best keyboards of ANY powerbook.
people ruin everything....

I don't know what it is about the Alubooks ones but for some reason I want keys to be plastic - more grip perhaps? plus you need more than one tone, or else the thing looks a lot bigger than it really is - you need the lines to be broken up, I think.

What was the Wallstreet like then?

I've had a Wallstreet and my current PB is the Pismo. I love the keyboard on the Pismo. It feels good when typing and it's a "bronze" color, so it's not the same as the casing color.

My 17-inch [Rev. A] (although the Revision number shouldn't make a difference here) PowerBook has a very comfortable keyboard, very suitable for long bouts of typing .

I especially enjoy the feel of the keys when I type--they are much deeper than on the TiBooks.

However, I did like the appearance of the TiBook keyboard, with its translucent keys, better--in my opinion, they matched the look and feel of the Aqua GUI of OS X far better.

My only gripe about my keyboard is that the wristpad is so deep that I need to extend my hands far just in order to reach the keyboard .

I'm going to have to go with my old Lombard. Loved typing on it and it looked awesome. It was a close call though, my 17" PB's keyboard is equally awesome, perhaps even more so with the fiber optics, but because the cursed space bar squeaks everytime I use it, I'm a little peeved with it right now. Hopefully I'll figure out some way to fix that.

Ouch!

Which revision of your 17-inch PowerBook do you have: Rev. A, or Rev. B?

Call me crazy, but aside from the lights, aren't all the Alu models the same?

Unlike some others, my 17-inch [Rev. A] G4 PowerBook keyboard doesn't squeak.

Ergo, for relevant purposes, it is not the same.

Agreed on the Bronze Pismo. Possibly one of the best looking laptops ever made.

The tiBook, while nice, looked dated to me by the end (never bought one).

The alBook looks best in the 12" format (I own a 15"). A bit monochromatic in the 15" and 17" format.

FYI, "Revision A" refers to the original 1 GHz CPU version of the 17-inch G4 PowerBook, released in January, 2003.

In contrast, "Revision B" refers to the new 1.25 GHz CPU version of the same model, released on September 16, 2003. (See the "17-inch: 1.33GHz, 512K L3 cache. 2GB maximum memory" thread on this forum.)

The distinction is significant, because different revisions often have different bugs. (Not only that, but some users actually show a preference for Rev. A's to Rev. B's; to wit, the "Proud to be a RevA BigAl Owner Thread" (again on this forum) .

but the dated ness of the Tibook is part of its charm - why does everything have to silver? surely contrast is good?
