Zooming in is laggy, but it's cool to see the changes. Could also be my work nanny fussing about the dynamic dns. (stupid nanny)

Wondering, are mushroom biomes not possible in our map?

It occurred to me that silverfish look like cybermats.

Also, latest update: Sandstone Stairs, about damn time. Villager trading, also makes them more interesting.

New mystery block next week that requires obsidian and is supposedly green. Dragon scale? Emerald? Hmm. Does this mean we can craft obsidian picks now?

The map is plenty snappy on my machine. (programmer humor) No its laggy from my work machine too. It was before too though. Feel free to call comcast and complain. Mushroom biomes are rare. Apparently they also only happen in oceans far from spawn. <cringes at the though of the map getting even larger>

No worries. Comcast sucks, I know. I've already called to complain before.

Enderchests, interesting. less lugging things from place to place or forgetting something behind maybe.

boats don't break on lily pads,

new gravel texture.

Mystery block is emerald.

So as nice as upside down stairs look over a bed, and though they let light in and all, apparently they count as obstructions. Trying to fight an enderman, I lost. Hello spawn.

I was too tired to solve the spawn puzzle properly. It is possible to make it from blaze's dome to the green line to cyclopse to running over the ice to cyclopse's cloud castle to the nether to my nether portal to my jungle. For the life of me I couldn't find the way to cyclopses portal from blaze's directly. Tired. I'll check it out another time, I'm sure.

Cyclopse, if you have a rail to your cloud it's hidden well!

If you go through the portal in the keep and get off the rail at the corner. Hang a left. Head to the center if the fortress then turn right and keep going past sargents nether gate. You'll cross the bridge I added into familiar territory.

From my dome go thru the portal then upstairs to the rail that comes from the spawn.

So that didn't fix the bed. dammit.

Nice puzzles. It's hard to hear one of them though.

The biggest challenge is not starving to death before you solve anything.

Andi,
Good point on the starving issue. I'll see if I can add a food dump somewhere obvious.

As for the rail to the cloud... if you go to my Skeleton spawner, go 'behind' it (behind the arrow and bow chests' and make a right. the line starts there. It ends in a shack below the cloud spiral stairs. I have a bed in the shack and also in the cloud tower: use them if you need to.

Also, and this goes more or less for anyone, if it's one of my chests and not a 'special' item, feel free to take what you need. Just drop me a comment here so I know. (and I don't consider +1 bows special anymore, so feel free)

Thanks Cyclopse, I have snitched a bit of iron and food from various people along the way.

I might try to connect over to your shack rail, is that ok? Either that or I'll build over to the village where Dakar's rail ends, then over to the green line there.

Also check your PMs for some beta test results of Castle Challenge of DOooooOOOom.

Feel free to connect to the shack line. If you're talking the Jungle area, I hit a abandoned mineshaft on my way down there from the shack rail (yes, another mineshaft. sigh). The only thing I plan to do with that line is, instead of stops, I'm wiring pauses with note blocks. The pause will be about 10 seconds or so to give you time to 'get out' but if you want to run from start to finish, it just goes. Simplify AFK travel.

(then I'll time the runs and post how many seconds to each stop at the various stations)

Read the PM. Good review. Replied.

You were right. I was confused as to what you were describing. There was a bad piston in the one with 4 buttons. Moved some stuff around and added a reset on the door you come in.

Busy rainy weekend. I was on a bit, didn't want to start something big. I was jealous of cyclopses +1 bows so converted my lava knife grinder into a piston squishing xp machine. Still need a sword for finishing them off. Not bad, one bow so far. Suspect I'll have to reinvestigate the broken water ladder though to get more skeletons.

What's nice is I can switch it back and forth between modes.

jealous? Dear Lord, don't be jealous! TAKE the silly things! If I could, I'd start using bows as furnace fuel, I get so many. They're in the 'bows' chest(s) next to the spawner. Take some arrows while you're there.

I'm also in the process of 'looting' a rather large abandoned mineshaft near my place. Getting a good amount of rail. Do you want to expand the line going to the 'flying castle' further 'down' towards the jungle?

They added a trip wire switch to the weekly update? Reduced max enchantment levels. Made level increases linear AND added XP orbs for basic tasks like mining?

Anyone else see this?

not until now! Interesting. Trip wires eh? I would like wires embedded in blocks.

Part of the grinder change was just the urge to squish something.

Jungle temples! Sound fun.

All for expanding the rail, maybe I'll be on thurs/fri.

Not sure how the enchantments of items will change with the new levels, will need to check if current hi level enchants are still possible, otherwise time to stock up in high level picks. Btw the cave spider grinder will get you to lvl 50 in a hour.

Redesigned skelly grinder 4 times, still not efficient. bah. Back to the zombies.

I just upgraded to Lion and did the java updates after that. Thinking that I must be on 64 bit java by now, I was surprised to see the Video>Distance>Far error "you need 64 bit java blah blah". My java preferences show both 64 and 32 bit installed, and 64 is on top so it's first. Googling tells me I should be getting 64 bit performance... but no?

I'll give that a try.

Cyclopse, I was wrong, vines WILL grow on glass, it just takes a REALLY long time compared to anything else.

(edit: you have to plant on a solid block and they will grow down over glass given time... lots of time.)

New launcher does not fix java sensing that I have 64 bit installed. :/

However, I updated everything else, plist and JavaApplicationStub and that seems to have helped! Woohoo far rendering.

Couldn't wait for the new easy servers coming whenever they finish them, set up a localhost for me and the kid. It was not as hard as I thought, although I didn't have to deal with dynamic IPs or opening ports, and haven't done much configuring.

We had fun trying not to starve and building a treehouse in the jungle. He's very adventurous!

Bewarned the server doesn't save. So if it or you machine crashes you'll loose progress. I use the save-all command usually twice a day.

Thanks. I'm still reading up on server commands and such, but so far only turning it on when we're going to play at the same time.

Thanks for showing me your spider grinder, I stayed awhile and then got myself a righteous helmet.

Silly thing not to know or to not be documented somewhere, option-f11 (may need fn depending on keyboard) will switch Minecraft to full screen. When not full screen on my machine it's limited to 60fps max. In full screen it goes all they way up to 150fps.

Not that I use it allot but this could be handy
The /tp command now allows teleporting to specified coordinates.
The syntax for this is /tp [target player] <x> <y> <z>.
And this has always been a pain
Removed the downwards knockback while drowning.

Weekly July 5th update...
things i find good:
  • Performance improvements, including reduced CPU, RAM & bandwidth requirements.
  • Updated Pistons to make them less error-prone, thus they also appear to update slower. This also altered the way Pistons work, so you might have to adapt your repeater delays and similar.
  • Signs are stackable up to 16.
    • Crafting them now gives 3 signs instead of 1 with the same recipe.
  • Boats now drop the boat item when destroyed.

The rest are 'meh' or 'huh?' items.

Hey, I spent a lot of time on that timing... as long as you don't stop you make it to the top with at LEAST 3 hearts You can ride a boat up, too.

(Actually, I'm going to 'raise the entrance' in a bit so you have less drowning effect.)

Have you tested what color works best? Inquiring minds want to know.

There are ways to make it safe. They all revolve around being able to swim half in the water. When silk touch works on ice again then it will be possible water ladders without signs or fence gates.

So far, all colors look like a grey line in the sky. adding torches below it make it look OK during day, but at night it's a super-bright highway.
ergo... not working well.

As for making the water safe... I don't want is safe... I want people to think before going up. It should have an element of risk what good is a SEECRET LAIR if just anyone goes there?

Map is updated. Still haven't solved the size issue.

That should resolve the issue of the two rail lines and the jungle.
