Hi. I'm pretty new at CLI stuff, so sorry if this is a dumb question.
I'm trying to download a large file with the standard CLI ftp client because Fetch eats too much processor time and makes my TiBook's loud fan turn on after a while. I tried searching with the locate command, but I couldn't figure out where the file is saved by default (I didn't specify a local destination). Where is it? Is the reason I can't find it that it doesn't actually create the file until it's done downloading?

It starts creating the file as soon as you begin downloading. The default download directory is whatever directory you are in when you run ftp.

Try the directory selected when you issue the ftp command. If you are at the default location when you open the Terminal, try /Users/(your user name).

Ah, you are both correct. It was in my home directory. I guess I just didn't let Finder refresh the folder contents.
Thanks!
