I gave up on AI, they were down too often...

They are down again this morning, Sunday the 13th. Really, what the hell is going on? I've never seen anything like this.

I wouldn't mind so much if it were not for the fact most other forums are terribly unagreeable. I've visited the MacWorld forums to read the feedback on the new iBook, and it's pretty unfriendly.

However - and Scott_H would be most disappointed if I didn't rake some muck - I have an interesting quote.
Mac OS X is running slow, even painfully slow for some things, on a G3. It runs much better on a G4. However, I asked Apple about this and they promise to address the disparity between G3 and G4 performance soon.
It may not seem too exciting, but it did come from Andrew Gore, so I'd like to believe there's some truth in it. Especially since I just shelled out for a new iBook.

Why is it the fastest hottest build of OS X is always just around the corner? It seems the answer is that there is no fast hot build of OS X and never will be. My patients is wearing thin with OS X. I'm giving Apple until this summer to get Rage Pro drivers to me. If they can't come through I'm returning OS X for a refund and will spend my hardware money elsewhere.

I don't think there is a super-fast version of OS X just round the corner, or even a couple of blocks away. To be honest, I'm generally happy with the performance of OS X. However, there is definitely an inconsistency in relative performance between OS X on a G3 and on a G4 - more than the physical differences in the chips should make.

If they can fix that, and the list of around 200 issues I have submitted to Apple, then I'll be happy.

THe things that currently annoy me the most are the inadequacies of the Finder (It needs a BIG update), and minor performance issues (I'm typing this in OmniWeb, and I'm about a word ahead of what I see on the screen).

Matsu, we really don't need more threads that all say the same thing. I'm closing this one too.
