Available via Software Update.
iTunes 7.1 has a new full screen CoverFlow option, and full support for the Apple TV (which one might assume will be available starting tomorrow).

coverflow does look pretty nice fullscreen.
and now you can auto-adjust the width of columns. and sort by 'skip count'. which will help me eliminate songs i was previously too lazy to delete.

QuickTime 7.1.5 delivers numerous bug fixes and addresses critical security issues. This update is recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.
No link to the security issues in Software Update... have to hunt them down on the Apple web site yourself - that is very, very sloppy. FWIW, it should say that it addresses a lot of critical security issues - 8 in total (includes 1 Windows specific).

Full screen cover flow would be awesome if it didn't black out both screens in a dual-display setup. At least, that's the way it is in Windows. Haven't tried that in OS X yet.

seems fine here in all other ways (so far...); i'm sure there's a reason (graphix processor needs?) but disabling 2nd monitor sucks...
guess when you're scrolling thru cd covers, that's all you're supposed to be doing...

The original coverflow program had this problem and Apple still hasn't fixed it.
At least you can pick which monitor it displays on.

I am pretty sure all quicktime 7 updates would do that. They are just giving people a warning that if they update to 7, they will have to buy 7 pro so that people don't complain after it wipes out their 6 install and they don't know what to do.

Full screen coverflow looks great but it's kind of useless since you can't see anything else on your computer while it's displayed... Pretty... But I see very little use for it on a day to day basis. Meh.

one annoyance i found:
it turned the "open iTunes when this iPod is connected" back to on, and i had to go back and un-click the option
-a
edit:
also, it sometimes says that it can not change ipod settings because it can not "see" the ipod even though it is playing music from it, and it shows up in the source list, and to unplug it and plug it back in

That's the nature of fullscreen. If you want to see other stuff, use the windowed version of CoverFlow.

Not sure if it's just me, but the slider bar that shows up across the bottom of Cover Flow is all blurry... really weird. Resizing the Cover Flow frame snaps it back to sharpness but viewing it in full screen reverts it back to a blurry state.

OK. Am I the only one who can't mount their 2G iPod anymore??
It mounts fine on my other non-upgraded macs (iMac G5, Mac Pro). After upgrading to 7.1 it just goes straight to "OK to disconnect". Copied over 7.0.2 and it does the same thing. Leads me to believe this is a QT 7.1.5 issue

well for one thing you can add "Sort Artist/Album/etc" in the Column setup -- it shows you what the artist is "seen" as when sorting
so The Strokes is sorted as Strokes.
No idea why its useful though

Wasn't it already doing that awhile ago?
BTW, if there's a page that lists these improvement, feel free to point me there instead of wasting your time. I looked around Apple, but didn't see anything useful.

"The" if it was at the beginning of a name ("The Beatles" would be sorted under "B").
Now you can define these things yourself. I just changed the sorting options for some of my songs. " "Weird Al" Yankovic " would show up at the top of my library when I sorted by artist because of the quotation marks, but when I put just " Weird Al Yankovic " in the Sort Artist field, the songs were sorted with the rest of the W's.
The sort thing is quite handy. I have my CD collection alphabetically since I have so many albums, so know I can organise my iTunes in the same way. Thus, I can have Ben Folds under F, John Mayer under M etc. Very handy.
Ok, I get it. This'll be handy, though I still want sort artist by year.
Edit: Non-Lounge Trifecta

*sigh* how do i revert back to 7.0? this thing is way to buggy. can't find synced ipods, ipods are corrupted, must be reset. alll the time. and so many warnings about stupid things like your ipod is on a slow usb port, try changing to a 2.0 usb port. I GOT NONE! it also doesnt even see my 2g shuffles anymore. oh, and the store is way slow now compaired to before, same with the downloads. if anyone cares, im on a 1ghz tipb with 1 gig ram and 100 gig 7200 hd
-a
edit: hmm, after a disk utility wipe and restart, it's working now

You want to sort artist by year? Jeez. I'm happy with Artist order then album by year. (Everyone knows that you can cick the column headings, right?)
I have an unusual bug - when Coverflow enters full screen, I see thin black diagonal lines all over the place. e.g across the album covers, across buttons etc. What is this?? Perhaps my formac 20" monitor is just too good - lines your not supposed to see....

i have the lines across the album art as well. imho, i think it is so that you can't do a screen capture of the cd art and use it else where.

While looking at your Library, click on the 'Album' list header to cycle through the sorting options. 'Album by Year' is the one you want.

I have to ask this [because although I did have CoverFlow stand-alone, I'm still running iTunes 6]:
Can iTunes 7's CoverFlow view do what you just said? i.e., artist-by-name _and_ album-by-year?
i.e., If I'm flipping through the Beatles, does " Abby Road" come first or **last** (like I want it to)?
?

Artist by Year doesn't even make sense. What would happen if you had Accidentally In Love (2004), Mr. Jones (1993), and Slide (1998)? The first two are by Counting Crows, and the last by Goo Goo Dolls. So would you consider Counting Crows to be 1993, 2004, or both? Would you list both Counting Crows songs first because the oldest one is older than the oldest one for the Goo Goo Dolls when sorting ascending, and also first when sorting descending since their newest song is newer than Goo Goo Dolls? That just makes no sense to me.

You don't understand what I mean. It'd work exactly as Album by Year, except when I hit b-e-a-t on the keyboard it takes me to the Beatles, rather than beautiful garbage.
Edit: I like looking through an artists catalog in chronological order, but with Album by Year I have to type an album name instead of the name of artist I just want to browse.

Given that beautiful is spelt the way it is, why would typing b-e-a-t take you to it in anycase?

The fullscreen coverflow feature screams for multi-touch!
Leopard + new displays + multi-touch = yum!

I don't understand. When I sort Album by Year and go into Coverflow I see all my albums alphabetically by artist, with multiple albums by the same artist in order of release. If I type A-I-R it goes to Air's first album (which is not called Air, just in case you were wondering).
Isn't this what you want?

I don't have any albums that start beat so it takes me to next closest letter, which happens to be 'u'.
I did have to double-check that, though.

A. iTunes does not do what you said for me (in coverflow or outside) [I'll try it again at home since iTunes at work isn't the most current version]
B. I don't use coverflow

Alright then, in your Library sort 'Album by Year' then click on 'All (xxx Artists)' at the top the Artists column of the browser. Now you can type the first few letters of the artist and it will show the albums by that artist in order of release.
Would that work?

That's rather clever. I might use it in a pinch, but for day-to-day use, it's still lacking. I don't like that it eliminates the rest of the library and takes up more screen space (also, sometimes I just type b-e-a, then scroll past beach boys and beastie boys to beatles).
I appreciate the help, but nothing short of a sortable column as I mentioned will help. The best solution I've seen is to name albums with their year at the beginning of the name, which is ugly, anal, and too much work.
