Today my dad asked me to take a look at a proposal for a total office software/hardware/support solution for their large Medical Practice. It was a HUGE amount of money. To give you all an idea, for what the company was offering for the windows hardware, it was VERY VERY VERY OVERPRICED in my opinion.

Just taking a quick overview on the hardware side, with the money they are going to pay, I would be able to buy a couple of fully loaded xserves, four loaded Powermac G5s with 20" monitors and a BUNCH of G5 iMacs with VESA mounts for a very elegant total office solution along with all the peripherals and scanners, laser printers, etc.

The only problem is, I need to find a highly developed Mac software solution for the office to go with the hardware.

I know that there are many Electronic Medical Records System software companies (or EMR Systems) out there, but most are still stuck in the late 1990's with their software products, running on classic OS8 or OS9. A few of their websites say, "Go with the NEW G3 iMac or G3 Desktop for the best setup!" These products are not as graphically attractive, nor to the integrate as well as a total package. The package needs to be able to track records, schedule, do billing, insurance, prescriptions, allergies, and electronic records (including OCR of old records).

Please help me out, those who either are or know Physicians or work for a medical office or go to a doctor whose office has a Mac solution, please help me out! I just know that there is something out there to do all these things.

If you want to email me a private message with a phone number or email for the office, I am pretty desperate at this point and do not want the office go to the "dark side".

take a look at filermaker.com

they may have a solutions directory with something like this. versiontracker.com may have some stuff but you are right about how most solutions are not very pretty.

but in this case what the app does is more important to your dad and partners.

too bad you did not have more time. your dad could hire you.

filemaker is sinfully easy. you would just need LOTS of time.

luck.

I checked on VersionTracker.com and found a list of several packages that are worth investigating. Not sure how well suited they are for your dad's situation, but you might as well have a look.

I'd be very suprised if you found any of the top Practice Management Systems offering Mac support.

There was one featured on the Apple website not long ago for a OB/GYN group in California. I haven't been able to locate it after a qick look, but it was somewhere in the Switch campaign. The guy even named the EMR product he was using. Uhnfortunately, I also don't remember what it was.

I found the Mac profile of the physician, I printed it to show to my dad and the other physicians. Also I found this (read the section about "works on a mac"),

http://www.apple.com/retail/paloalto/

so I will be contacting the Palo Alto store today. Very exciting to see some solutions, albeit, a developer could make a serious chunk of change if they developed at good solution that looked good too.

That is pretty funny manofsteal! LOL!!!

Actually, now I am wondering if it is such a good idea to persuade his staff to get a mac system, considering the fact that it brings memories back to when I was a teen and I would repair and update all my dad's macs at home and something inevitably wouldn't work (like a printer or scanner or obscure piece of hardware that just needed to be turned on) and suddenly my younger brother or I would be the ones to blame! I would hate to have a bad 100K+ purchase blamed on me!

On the other hand, I like this web based software that I found: cross platform, compatible with all devices, etc. Tell me what you guys think?

or this other which had a presentation at the palo alto store the other day:
