i've been trying to get mozilla 0.9.3 to work, to no avail. it consistently "freezes" on the splash screen with "component registration finished" displayed in the progress pane. quit, relaunch, then i get stuck on "Starting up...". then i delete the "Component Registry" file, the "Mozilla" directory in ~/Library and delete the "Mozilla Registry" and "Netscape Registry" files in ~/Library/Preferences, and start the process all over again.

any ideas or insights? the only (as yet untested) theory i have is that my dual-monitor configuration is somehow causing mozilla grief, but i'm stretching there. any help would be much appreciated!

Mozilla 0.9.3 did that on my B&W too. For about the last three weeks or so, I have been using nightly builds of Mozilla. The builds have been very stable minus like one day last week. I am using yesterday's build to post this on my iBook
I would suggest getting a nightly from ftp.mozilla.org. Most likely the problem you had has been fixed as the 8-7 build worked fine on the blue g3 when the 0.9.3 release did not.

unfortunately, i've had this and similar problems through several iterations of mozilla. in fact, i've never had a version launch successfully on me, *ever*. i initially wrote that off to buggy devware, but from the choruses of love and hate i've been reading lately about mozilla on this board and others, it's starting to make me wonder if something else is wrong.... i'll give the nightly a shot.

Ok, I just fought with Mozilla and won. I started having the same problem on the iBook and solved by deleting the mozilla folders in:
~/Documents/Mozilla
~/Library/Mozilla

Mozilla will now use its defaults instead of your prefs. I tried a new theme and appearantly it did not like that. Good luck.

I have used 0.9.3 since it came out and 0.9.2 for about a month. I have
never had a problem starting up. It's crashed on me a few times, probs
with bad websites I guess. Then I run into the prob with starting up.
I figured out that if I erase the Mozilla prefs folder in my home directory
it would start again. I think it's a problem with the cache... maybe?

But 0.9.3 has been good so far.

just delete ~/Library/Preferences/Mozilla Registry
and delete ~/Library/Mozilla/

and relaunch.

I've never had a build not start after doing this.

Beware that the first startup can be painfully slow on a slow machine... but just about every app starts painfully slow on OSX 10.0.4

okay, running through the usual delete mozilla prefs and registry process still doesn't work.

and as far as startup times, i've left the splash screen up for 5+ minutes, to no avail.

i'm running a graphite 500 mhz g4 with 384 meg ram, so i don't think speed is a big issue. sorry, should've mentioned that...

my dual monitor configuration is also not an issue; i tested that last night.

interestingly enough, there is no ~/Documents/Mozilla directory. i tried creating one, but it had no effect.

The documents/mozilla was moved to ~/Library/Mozilla

Did you delete that and the registry in ~/Library/Preferences/ ?

If you did both of those things and it still won't start, I'm baffled (unless your 500 is a dual cpu machine).

There was a terrible 0.9.3 build recently... don't remember which one, but you might also try downloading http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/n...-0.9.3.sit.bin

That's the last 0.9.3 build they made, which I'm using and which has worked flawlessly since the 3rd of this month.

Good luck

Count me among those who haven't had any problems starting up the mozilla nightlies on osx, either on my own marble (white ibook) or my brother's g3 pb. Renders quickly, and it's not microsoft.

yes, i have deleted ~/Library/Mozilla and ~/Library/Preferences/Mozilla Registry.

nope, i don't have a dual cpu.

i've tried using the formal fizzilla builds as well as the os x nightlies off the trunk. the fact that they all seem to barf in the same manner seems to indicate to me that the problem isn't in mozilla, but is in the os or elsewhere.

is there any way to generate some kind of startup log?

could having the developer tools installed cause this?

Can't be the developer tools causing problems. I've got 'em installed on my 350Mhz slot-loading iMac w/ 320MB, and have never had the "no startup" problem.
