Hi,

I didn't know if this was asked before (couldn't use search function), but is there software that allows Mac OS X to to receive an exported X session from a Unix/Linux box?

I know there's VNC, but I want to export my current X session to the Mac. Or is is possible to make VNC export the current desktop of a Linux box to OS X? The effect I want is something similar to Mac OS X/Windows NT running a VNC server -- the current desktop is being controlled.

Well, it's very easy really - install XDarwin, start it running (OroborOSX is a nice frontend if you want an aqua-looking window manager), then open a terminal and type "ssh -X [username]@[ip of X server]" (without the []). If it's configured correctly, it will then be as simple as running X programs - for example, "exec gnome-session" or "mozilla&" and they will show up on your screen. If this doesn't work straight off, the two additional things you may need to do are:

On your own machine, in a seperate terminal: "xhost +[ip of X server]"

On the remote machine, in the ssh session:
"export DISPLAY [your ip]:0"; replace export with setenv if running a csh derivative.
[vash:~] banana% killall killall
