mine lives on the floor, but has spent considerable time on top of the desk as well. its most recent banishment came after i realized that installing quieter fans was kind of pointless if the computer wasn't as physically far from my ears as possible.

G5s are too big to put on the desk! I needed all my desk space for stuff I need at hand.

I voted "on the floor" but what I really mean is "under the desk." I keep it elevated a few inches off the floor--as high as it will go while still fitting under the desk.

G5s look nice on a desk... on a print ad. Desk space is precious. I have a large desk but the G5 stays on the floor.

Couldn't bring myself to put it on the floor, not with all the dust and stuff that's likely to get sucked in. So I keep it on my desk, behind my monitors.

are g5s noisy? if so i'd hate to hear what kind of fans they'd need to run if they didn't have the liquid cooling system. my quicksilver 2002 g4 bugs me enough with its noise, and i have two near-silent disks in it and the quietest fans i could purchase... although i love having a bright desktop lcd i miss the near-silence of a laptop.

my Quicksilver 2001 lives right next to my 18" Mitsubishi LCD.
it's not the quietest, but I have loud music on so that point is rather moot

The Quicksilver 800 that I use at work sits on a shelf above my desk (which itself is just a large shelf). I use a crummy 15" LCD with it.

I have one of the loudest macs ever, the dual proc MDD. My first year in college (when I first got it) I put it under my desk. My second year I had it on the left side of my desk facing me. Now, in my third year I have it on my desk at the back facing sideways so that the cables all hang over the side of my desk instead of the back (its in the corner of the room so this works well), the optical drives face my monitor (19" NEC CRT) and are still easy to get to.

I live in a triple-occupancy dorm room... it lives on the floor.
Not due to noise, though... my G5 is quieter than either of my roommates' computers.... even the one that is in the living space (mine is in the bedroom).

I bounce back and forth between the floor and the desk. Currently my Digital Audio is on the floor, under my desk.

i have a huge desk and the G5 is really quiet so it sits up on top of my desk. having a flatscreen helps by not having a big footprint. but i really just want to show it off

I put under the desk, but its at the bottom of a computer cabinet next to the HP 1215. At eye level I have my monitor (duh!), SoundSticks and a mess of USB hubs. On top of the cabinet i have the iSub speaker, PS2 and speakers, camera dock base and some junk like piles of CD's and DVD's.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

my G4 400 lives next to the monitor on top of the desk, I wouldn't like to have it on the foolr, 'eating' the dust
my future G5 DP 2.0 will probably go to the floor, but elevated... because I'll need the desk space for the double monitor setup
still, I would preffer to have it on top of the desk

I have my MDD G4 sitting on a little shelf under my desk (about four inches above the floor) to keep the dust bunnies away.

My G4 tower lives in the tower compartment of my computer desk (near the floor, but not on the floor.) I'm planning on getting a computer cart/mini workstation desk and that'll be the new home for my tower.

I have a large table (1900 x 700 or something) and I am getting a large return just a little smaller at (1500 x 700) so keep my G5 on the table at the moment.
Once I get back into semester I suspect things will change.
I'd like to try just the 30" on the table and go for a more minimal look
