Hi...
I uses to play with Linux on my Mac before (LinuxPPC, YDL, Mandrake, etc...) but stopped after I moved to Mac OS X. I administer several Linux PC boxen, but I can't seem to shake off this weird feeling of running Linux on Mac. It just doesn't feel... the same. I also have to admit that administering Linux on a PC seems to be easier (grub/lilo is easier to configure than Yaboot, several x86 packages are out there, source compiles don't always go wrong, etc...).
What do you use Linux on Mac for? Do you interact with it as much as you would on the Mac OS, be it 9 or 10? Or is it used as standalone routers/web servers/etc? Why Linux on Mac if you have a PC to run it on?
Just thinking out loud. I have several PPC Linux CDs which my subconscious is insisting I install once more, just for the heck of it.

Why not be content with running Linux on my PC?
It's that bossy subconscious - I've been putting it off for the last 2 weeks, but tonight's the night! Worse than that, I also have a Darwin CD set.
Is there no cure?

Good reason: My Linux running mac is faster than the PCs I have.
Reason #2: I like the http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/ distro.
Reason #3: I have the mac hardware and would like to keep it useful.

Older hardware still has feelings...I like the fact that I can run a powerful system on 64 MB RAM and have it fly faster than OS X on my Dual GHz.
Its just fun if you have the older hardware, and even newer too I guess, mainly for hacking and getting to configure my own stuff and have it run MY way.

Well, I guess if you have decent enough, old hardware. I've been having problems at times compiling under PPC Linux, even with PPC sources/patches. It probably could have something to do with libraries and the rest, but I wouldn't know for sure.
I'd have to admit that Xfree86 (or should it be XfreePPC? ) is faster on my Mac than Mac OS X is, but there are some things that take just so much longer (or more effort) to do on Linux than on the Mac.

I had YellowDog Linux 2.2 on my dual-usb iBook along side OS X. I wanted an alternate OS and Linux just seemed like a good idea. I installed YDL 2.2 and deleted Classic. Unfortunately for a novice like me it was just too frustrating. I wiped the hard drive clean, reinstalled OS X, and as a second OS I installed -- get this -- Mac OS 9! The benefits are many, including my familiarity with the OS and all its nuances, ease of networking including AirPort (never could get it to work with YDL), ease of updating (never could get yup! to work on YDL), and full compatibility with Mac hardware (no annoying video sound issues). I'd love to get an older laptop like maybe the Comet 2400 and play with YDL. www.ebay.c.......
