Is OS X preloaded onto mac computers, or do they give you software disks?

Every Mac comes with disks to restore the system to the way it was when you bought it (should you ever need to), but the OS and bundled software is pre-installed.

One of the great things about Macs is that it comes preinstalled with ONLY OS X and other software produced by apple. You won't be getting any of that 15 day trial crap littering your desktop!

Err, trial version of MS Office is on there, GraphicConverter has been there in the past (perhaps still is), various others. I don't see this as a problem, but Macs do come with other software installed.

Yeah and Garageband is such a hog that you've lost over 10 gigs already (I mean garage plus iWorks etc.).

The first thing I do when I get a new Mac is boot off the install CDs and do a complete reinstall, removing all the printer drivers, languages kits and software I don't use.

Same here, I format and reinstall only what I want. I don't want any of the trial software hogging my machine when I won't even use them. Then there's parts of iLife I'll never use, such as garageband.

Yep - I tend to reinstall the OS right away. Though it doesn't make much sense unless you want to customized your install in some way. Removing optional programs, languages and printer drivers is first on my list. There are also rare cases where the DVD is actually newer build of the OS compared to the one pre-installed on the HDD.

In comparison to other PC bundles, the Mac's compliment of additional software is quite light and relatively useful. If nothing else, it gives you a little time to evaluate their usefulness. Some of the stuff I've seen bundled some PC's I would almost classify as malware..

I got a bunch of other 3rd party stuff installed on my Macbook, like ComicLife, OmniOutliner, trial versions of Keynote, Pages, MS Office, and Aperture, and a bunch of other things that are registered with no serial number and the owner as "Apple Bundle."

Same here. MacBook Core 2 Duo - White. Bought refurbed in January of 2007.
