Hi,

I have one of those new iMac G5's (17" with 1GB Ram) I heard that the more ram you put into the iMac the more noise it will make. Any truth to that ?

When I play games my fans go off the hook and whines like crazy. I had my CPU set on highest when playing UT2004 Demo. Right now it's Automatic though. Is my Mac faulty? I sure hope not.

The fan noise problem is a well know issue with the new iMac. I bought my iMac 17" 1.8GHz back in October. I had the midplane replaced and the power supply replaced twice. In that time it also started getting a burning smell if I left on for a few hours. Finally I got tired of the whole thing and Apple was nice enough to replace my iMac with a PowerMac. It took 6 months but it finally happend. I was told, by Apple, that they are aware of the issue and they are trying to fix it.

Thanks discotronic, I believe I posted in that thread aswell saying that my fan is not noisy, but I admit now that it is.

The thing is that my Mac is not /that/ loud when set on automatic but goes grazy in games. And I want to play some more on my Mac.

I'm glad to hear that you got a PowerMac instead.
