I've had 10.2 installed for a few weeks, but now I want to install Classic. Where do you get it? Do I have to re-install the machine's original OS with Software Restore? I have several Macs and all the original OS software (G3 iMac, PB800, dual 800).

But for the life of me, I can't find an OS 9 CD to install from. I have OS 9 upgrade CDs, but nothing that I can see with a regular OS 9 to install.

Anyone else have to do this?

Thanks.

If you have software restore CDs, then you should have an OS 9 installer CD.

The restore CDs will wipe your drive. There is some way to extract only what you want (I think) but I don't know it. I suggest you hunt down that OS 9 Installer CD.

I installed Classic 9.2 from original CDs sometime after putting Jag on a fresh new disk. It worked fine for me.

I installed OS 9.2 about a week after installing OS X.2. I booted from the OS 9 CD, and selected the drive with OS X to install on. It gave me a warning that it would have to clean install the disk in order to do this, so I quit the installer, backed up my OS X files, and proceeded to install OS 9 as I described above.

To my surprise, none of my OS X stuff was deleted! I did not need the back up I made, and all was fine and dandy on Tele-tran 2 (my computer).

hey, what's up with this? I also did a clean install of Jag, and I installed the classic drivers, too (no partitions). Apparently, however, this doesn't allow us to run Classic. So

Do I just get my 9.1 CD and install classic from it?
Do I use 9.1 system 'install' or 'restore'? (I don't want to re-install Jag!)
Do I have to actually boot from the 9.1 CD, or can I just put it into Jag and click on it - like installing an .app?

Thanks!

My iMac came with 8.5 software, so when I installed 9.2 it was from an actual OS 9 CD. Regardless, I would recommend using the Install CD and not the Restore. I booted from the CD, I don't know if it will work booting from your hard drive. Again, the installer told me it would erase my OS X stuff, but it didn't. Back up before you try anything.
