As seen here:
OWC
and at dealram.com
They apparently have a boot at Macworld, per their
website.
Plus their prices for an 800 or 1gig G4 are outstanding. However, I've never heard of them.
Anyone have any experience with them?
Can someone stop by their booth and see if they're for real or not?
Thanks,
tsukurite

i was just going to post this topic when i saw yours!
yeah, what's up with this company? someone on the macnn news comments on this story said that he talked to the guys at their booth, and that the company is only 3 weeks old.
i don't know, the product is cheaper than other upgrades, and the bus speeds (for 100 or 133Mhz) can be adjusted via DIP switches, but compared to the PL or Sonnet upgrades, this looks...i don't know...cheap? maybe it's just me, or maybe i'm just used to drooling over the pl's.
you know, i'm all for cheaper upgrades, and supporting upstarting players in the market, but i'm going to need to see some reviews or tests before i sink $550 into an unknown upgrade, when $50 more gets me a PL.

$299 for the G4/800 is dirt cheap, I'm very interested in what these CPUs are about. I realize that $300 for a 800 MHz CPU still is expensive however it's way better than Sonnet and PowerLogix.
I understand these are not available in Europe yet but it's still cheaper to get it at OWC for $299 plus $32.10 S&H plus 16% customs duty in Germany sums up to $384 as opposed to $550 for the PowerLogix G4/800 in Germany.

nothing lists cube compatibility, so maybe not.
i don't know about the 800, but i'm guessing the top end is using the G4 7455; their specs say it has 2mb DDR L3.
maybe OWC will put up a review (even if it may be biased, since they seem to be the only people selling it).

It would be nice if OWC would post a review, but I've got 300 bucks sitting here burning a G4 sized hole in my pocket. I may just trust to luck and OWC's return policy. *shrug*.
Thanks for your responses!

They got back to me. No immediate Cube support, but if they eventually do support it then it will be "dealer install only".
(There, now maybe I can save them from a few e-mails.) <GRIN>

I saw their booth today. I guess they are new... Looked like nice stuff. I was wondering if anyone else had heard of them...

I was so happy about the G4/800 at only 300 dollars.
Then I dug out tests of the L3 less G4/733. In some tests it actually is slower than a G4/500 and the performance seem to be as a G4 with L3 running at 450-600 MHz.
I really do not see the point wiht this upgrade. If 400-500 MHz is to slow then this will be to slow also or be so soon. Now if a 1GHz with L3 was at 400 dollars or at least a G4/800 with L3 for 350 or so

if you're going to upgrade, i say go all out and get a 745x with L3. i've got a 450 sawtooth, and i won't settle for anything less than a 1ghz with L3! okay, so i'll also have to wait until i cough up the extra dough, or at least until prices drop a bit.

Ahh good .... someone that installed a single 800 ....
How do you like it? How much faster is it than your OEM configuration?
(I've been looking for someone that installed one of these exact boards.)

driven: so far so good. I said in the other thread that I'll be benchmarking both the chips this weekend, following in the footsteps of Mike from XLR8YourMac.
