I'm an intermediate photographer (in skill, not equipment) and I'm on the search for a 50mm f/1.8 lens for my Canon EOS 350D (aka Digital Rebel XT) and I can't find any for the life of me... Every search I make, be it on amazon.com, bhphotovideo.com, or even google, I can not find an AF 50mm f/1.8 lens. All I find are EF ones... now as far as I know, these have a different mount setup. Am I right? I have an AF->EF mount for my 350D, but it's weird and the corrective lens isn't very good.
I saw a poster here where they used a 50mm EF lens on a 30D. It confused me.
Am I missing something? Can I easily put the EF lens on my digital camera? What do I need?

AF - AutoFocus
EF - Electro-Focus
the AF has nothing to do with mount type. your 350D can take EF and EF-S lenses. you'd be hard pressed to find a canon lens for sale that didn't work with your camera.
the 50mm 1.8, btw, is a very good value. it's plastic & it's $80, but the pictures are sharp and, hell, it's a 1.8.

By all accounts, the EF f/1.4 is much better than the f/1.8.

No surprise though, since the EF f/1.4 costs a lot more. (I have the f/1.8 and I'm not a big fan of it, except for the price.)

The 1.4 is a good lens. I was going to suggest you try to find an older 50 1.8 with the metal mount, although you'd pay a premium for it. Enjoy your 1.4

I have no lid upon my head. But if I did, you
could look iniside and see what's on my
mind.

the 1.4 is absolutely beautiful. I love my 1.8, but the 1.4 is so much better I avoid using it when i have the chance because i don't own it, and it just depresses me.
Don't be afraid of picking up a 1.8 as a back-up if you get the chance.

I've got the 1.4 and the 1.8, and love them both!
