My 2.33 24" with 7600 GT, 2 GB, 500 GB and wireless keyboard is supposed to ship by Sept. 15. That's the date I was given when I ordered the 2.16 the day it was released, and the ship date didn't change when I up-spec'd the order to 2.33 2 days later.

Dunno if it's true or not, but the sales person said that for orders now the 2.16 may be seeing delays, but the 2.33 isn't. Could be inaccurate info, but there ya go.

Anyone with a ship date earlier than Sept. 15, esp. for the 24"?

BTW, Macworld already has a few. From my iMac thread:

When did you order it? I would have expected the standard 24" config to ship even earlier, but I guess not.

I ordered it the day it was announced. It does seem like it should ship earlier, but I don't know. Does Apple usually put the farthest possible ship date on there just in case there are delays?

I ordered a 20" on the night between Thursday and Friday. Original estimated arrival date was the 14th, but it changed to 12th during Friday ( I got a message that it shipped Friday afternoon). I just looked, and it has allready arrived to Finland at 4pm today.

I did'nt change anything in it to receive it earlier.

Lucky scum. It looks like you're getting yours Monday then.

I hope to get mine by the end of next week, but they're predicting online it may not ship until next Friday (although the phone rep suggested it may ship as early as Wednesday). If I don't receive it until the following week, that's OK. I'll be happy as long as some orders are not delayed longer like with a lot of previous Macs. BTW, it's a bit weird they call mine a 2.16 CTO, and then list the 2.33 GHz chip:

IMAC 24/2.16 CTO
2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
NVIDIA GEFORCE 7600 GT w/256
500GB Serial ATA Drive
SuperDrive 8X (DVDR-DL/CD-RW)
WL kybd, Mse & Mac OS X
Country Kit

BTW, I was at the Toronto Eaton Centre Apple Store today. No 24" iMac yet.

I ordered the 24 inch on 8 sept. My ship date is 19 sept and delivery is 26 sept. Hoping it will ship earlier. I called the apple store in minneapolis and they had no idea when they were getting theirs in which is why I ordered online. Wish apple would have these in stock before anouncing the stuff. I hate to wait.

Nice! Did you get the 7300 GT or the 7600 GT?

According to the Apple Store account info, mine is still "Estimated Shipped By Sep 15, 2006".

P.S. For new products like this, I never pay for expedited shipping. It seems Apple sends them all by air from China anyways.

The only time expedited shipping seems to make a significant difference for me is when they are products that one might expect to ship from the US (like iPod accessories, etc).

Congrats. Which model? Pix please. Not of you messing yourself, but of the iMac/unpacking.

"About this Mac" would be interesting too, as others have said it says it's a "Placeholder" CPU according to 10.4.7.

P.S. Cinebench is gonna fly on these machines methinks.

I ordered my BTO 20" iMac Core2Duo (256MB VRAM) on Wednesday, Sept. 6th. Its projected ship date has held steady at Friday, Sept. 15th, with delivery expected via overnight on Monday, Sept. 18th. If I get lucky and it ships a day earlier, perhaps I can get it before the weekend.

Seems so

I'm writing with the new computer now. Feels absolutely wonderfull, the 20" display seems huge after working with a 17 and 19" one. The computer is also fast compared to my macbook pro (unzipping files mainly as I'm setting it up).

My estimated delivery date has moved closer again.

Was originally the 27th, but it shipped early and the delivery date moved to the 20th.
Now I have an estimated delivery date of the 18th, which is one week away!

Heh. Seems kinda odd, considering your shipment date was Sept. 9. It's shipping via FedEx to Manchester, right? Is the 18th what FedEx tells you or is it what Apple tells you?

My delivery date as quoted by Apple being pretty late too (Sept. 29?) cuz I just asked for standard shipping, gambling they'd ship it FedEx. They did, so now I'm guessing I could get it on the 15th, or the 18th at the latest (unless there are customs holdups), even if Apple decides to use a 3rd party shipper within Canada.

FedEx doesn't have a delivery date estimate yet, and this is what I get when I go to the Apple Store to recheck my estimated delivery date:
Thank you for shopping at the Apple Online Store

Apple's Online and phone Order Status services are temporarily unavailable due to a scheduled upgrade to our systems.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Now I notice FedEx has my shipping status listed as an "Exception" because the Package was received after FedEx cutoff, what ever that means. I suspect my estimated delivery of the 15th has went out the window.

given the choice between buying a 17" imac and a macbook which would you choose. i saw the imac 17" (c2d) at the apple store in the woodlands and was VERY impressed. i have a powebook which i was gonna sell and just put towards a new macbook pro (instead of the imac) but... i am feeling a bit confused.

i could still keep the powerbook and have a much faster 'home' machine. i like having a laptop, but just not sure what to do right now.

Yes, same here. I think it means it was too late to get on the plane that day. My status hasn't been updated since Sept. 12:

Sep 12, 2006 5:55 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Package received after FedEx cutoff

That was 5:55 am, Sept. 12, in Toronto. It is now 9 am Sept. 13 and no update. Mind you, that's often par for the course. FedEx doesn't update the details as quickly as some other shippers. And we can't assume there is much to update either. Maybe today's plane doesn't leave until a bit later.

Well, you may be right, but I'm still hopeful. If it is on the plane this Wednesday morning (late Wed. night in Shanghai), it could arrive in North America tonite, and be in Canada by Thursday morning. Thus, it could be thru customs in Canada by Thursday, which means it could be delivered Friday, September 15. ie. I'll just say I'm expecting Monday, but think Friday is a distinct possibility.

I'm not sure how it works for you guys in Manchester though, since you have 5 hours less leeway. We're 5 hours behind you I believe (and 12 hours behind Shanghai).

It's really up to you. It depends on what you need it for, but the MacBook is a very good all around machine. Even the faster G4 PowerBooks feel slow compared to the MacBook in most usage, at least with native applications. Photoshop (running under Rosetta) is quite slow on the MacBook though.

Sweet! Which day did it ship, the 11th or 12th or something? Where are you located, and did it ship from Shanghai?

That gives me more hope for delivery by Friday.

I've got a return of my Core Duo iMac 20" (mid-2006 model) to process before I'll feel comfortable opening my Core 2 Duo iMac 20" (late-2006 model), which is due to arrive Monday. Hopefully, they'll have received the old one, found it to be in good working order, and will be on their way to issuing my credit so I don't have two machines on my credit card for very long.

I got lucky because my "old" new iMac shipped nine days before the announcement of the newest iMacs, and so it was eligible for return under Apple's price protection policy.

Well I just checked FedEx tracking and its never been scanned again since the evening of the 12th when it missed the FedEx cutoff, it was just after midnight of the 14th Shanghai time. Of course as you've pointed out that doesn't necessarily mean its not on the move and the scans haven't shown up in the tracking system.

Two years ago I went through this same thing with my 20" iMac and as I recall it sat in Shanghai for a couple days, maybe there aren't flights out on a daily basis. When I ordered my QuickSilver and 17" monitor a few years back it was through Macconnection and I paid for overnight delivery and had it the next day.

Hmm... Although the rest of the information is completely unchanged, sometime this morning this line was added:

Estimated delivery Sep 15, 2006 10:30 AM

It shipped on the 11th, was scheduled to arrive tomorrow, but got here bright and early today. So it shipped from Shanghai to me in NY in 3 days! All without paying for expedited shipping! Thanks Apple

Well, that would be nice since I just sold my G5 and will be without a computer (desktop) for a few days.

Mine does have the now added 10:30 AM also, but its estimated delivery has always been Sept 15. I just want to see a little movement in this direction and I'll be happy.

SOLIDAge, what'd you think of the 24"? Just wanted to get a hands-on view on how would you rate the overall experience for lets say.. setting this up in a bedroom and hooking it up to a TV tuner and using as a primary computer and watching DVD's, Videos and stuff.

Yeah, for newly released Macs, I NEVER pay for expedited shipping, cuz they pretty much all come from overseas via FedEx anyway.

OTOH, if I order accessories, they often ship ground from California or something, and that takes a long time.

Heh. What made it easy for me is I'm getting lotsa discounts.

Photoshop will be slow, until CS3 is out.

Dunno too much about Garageband, but my musician friend loves Garageband on her older Core Duo iMac, so this should be fine for you.

For Aperture, I posted in the other thread some guy's impression of the speed of the 24" with 7600GT.

He said it was faster than his Dual G5 2.7 with GeForce 6800 Ultra. Curiously though, he said the 7300 GT Mac Pro sucked at Aperture in comparison. I would have thought it would be OK, but he said it was even worse than the X1600 iMacs.

Core 3 Duo. Schweet!

But yeah:

I predict we'll easily break 700 with the 2.33. Bragging rights indeed.

If you take a look at this:

iMac Core 3 Duo versus three older iMacs
G5/2.7GHz Power Mac versus others

It looks like the new 20" iMac CD 2.1 Ghz is faster than a Dual 2.7 Ghz G5.

Also looking at some other tests, it looks like it holds up well to dual core G5s.

Dual Core Pentium versus Dual CPU G5 Power Mac

I assume you mean "C2D", not "CD".

Do we actually know the conditions of the tests were the same? The gaming bench was certainly different.

Oh and...

Guess which iMac I currently own...

I Just checked FedEx for the latest information on my BTO 24" iMac but I could have saved myself the trouble and just checked for any of your updates. Mine is right along side yours and there is now real hope for that 10:30 AM, 15 Sept delivery after-al.

Mine also missed the plane. I asked for standard delivery, so I'm a little surprised it is being FedExed. I'm actually kind of worried since I am in Japan right now and don't want to miss its arrival

I'm working on the 24 incher right now, and it really is a beautiful computer. The screen just seems to envelope you, making you forget you're even sitting in front of a computer. It's may sound odd, but it's like it lessens the gap between computer user and computer.

The sound is pretty good. I haven't used any of the of the smaller iMacs, so I don't have anything to compare it to. But it's decent and can get pretty loud. (and w/o music on, the computer is very quiet)

Did the iMacs used to have the convenient little door underneath the chin to easily change the memory? If not, that's a great addition.

Other than that all I can say is man is she fast and incredibly gorgeous!
