I did a search and couldnt find the answer to my question. I have my last rev 15" al powerbook pluged into the ac, and hooked into my external monitor. Im using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse as well. It also has the new battery fully calibrated from apples recall, i don know if all this matters but i figured id post the variables. When i tell it to go to sleep it does, the light comes on, but 2-3 seconds later, it wakes itself up! I cant figure out why it is doing this. So i unhooked it from my external monitor, unplugged the ac so it was just on battery, and turned off the keyboard and mouse so it is on its own. I close the lid to put it to sleep, and it does the same thing, light comes on, but then it wakes itself back up, even with the lid closed! what is going on here?

Try turning the bluetooth off on the PB.

Yes, and if that works you can probably go into the BT prefs and turn off "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer."

Unless a key is stuck or something I can't think what the problem could be.

some things:

check the energy saver settings in sys prefs.
(ie turn off wake for admin access, etc)

check activity monitor, see what else is on (utilities folder).

turn off itunes.

turn off the airport (or whatever you're online with).

check the console! (utilities folder).

try deleting the systemprefs preference file.

i have wake for admin and everything else off in energy saver settings...

the only thing that is on is my browser(since i am writing this now), pmtool under root and lookupd also under root

itunes is off

i dont know what i should be looking for in console...

i tried it with airport off and it still woke up...

ive gotten to stay alseep now if i close the lid, but not if i leave it open...
what could it possible be?

You can try making a new user and seeing if it will sleep when using that. I would think that would rule out a lot of the software-based explanations for this.

ok, ill do that in a minute and post back the results. ive also found out something rather weird. if i have it plugged into the ac adapter, it wont stay asleep either, when closed. But if it is just running on battery then it does....and the sad thing is that my warranty just ended in august....

i just tried that, i logged out of mine and logged into the new one, same thing, stays asleep with it closed without the ac adapter. but with the lid open it does not. this is driving me crazy.

Sounds like a plugged in peripheral is keeping it awake and/or it's trying to do clamshell mode or something

Ok, you have NOTHING plugged into the PB, it stays asleep closed on battery but not AC? It doesn't stay asleep open on battery or AC? Tried a PRAM and PMU reset?

i have nothing plugged into the pb, it stays asleep only on battery with the lid closed. if the lidis open, or if it is plugged into the ac adapter then i wont. Also, if it is closed and just on the battery so it stays asleep, if i plug in the ac adapter it wakes up the pc.

Do you have Temperature Monitor on? Sometimes it will keep a Mac from sleeping.

Now that nothing seems to help, I would say take it in to Apple if it is under warranty... even if it isn't maybe they can at least tell you what is wrong.
