It is possible, might need some work. Check this link

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=207751

This guy had to use an MBP upper enclosure as the LCD did not fit his powerbook enclosure.

maybe not so, the hi res one is coming from a hi-res powerbook, i have the low res version, same dimension, case and lcd. im wondering if i need a different video card possibly because the hi-res powerbook uses DDR2 ram and the low res powerbook uses DDR ram.

Why not just sell your low res powerbook and buy a MBP or a high res powerbook?

Fusion,

Awesome idea if i didn't already love my pbook without all of the kinks of the new gen stuff. I will eventually purchase a 'pro' at some point but for now if this fix is reasonable ill go with that... No sense in spending extra cash than the, let's say $600 to fix this one. It has never let me down on the road or in the studio or even my home studio... just works... minus the screen now because of sir schmuck a-lot dropping it.... I mean even right now , clam closed, she is trying her best to make sure that i am enjoying typing this long-winded post to you...

Some people might say "Hey put that $600 to better use and put it towards the macbook pro" thats fine and I do understand the logic but coming up with the other $1500 and rationalizing it are totally seperate ideas unto themselves....

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions everyone. I need to call Apple Care and get this ting take care of... Im do to go on tour soon so i'd like my baby back before then.

Love,
your most saddest panda.

sadpandas, that 1500 would come from selling your current machine. Even with a dead screen it's worth some good money. Sell powerbook, plus some cash, you could easily afford getting a newer powerbook with high res screen.

I didn't know a powerbook with a dead screen could fetch that kind of money that means if i put in another $800 or so i could get a mac book pro... Fusion, thanks for the tip. WOuld i be selling it online or to one of those places that 'buys your old macs' in the back of mac addict and the other mac mags? Its been a rough 2 weeks using this thing with an external monitor... talk about defeating the purpose.... Anyway, thanks again fusion and any tips or points in the right direction as to who and how id sell this beauty... well, semi-beauty, would be great help!

Apparently you'd rather be your own beta tester...

The best is usually eBay. It's where people usually turn first when they are looking for broken computer stuff, usually to fix a broken machine that they own themselves.

I would do some research on eBay for a little while and see if you can fetch more money for either selling it as a whole or parting it out, i.e, the hard drive, logic board, case, all separate. You'd be amazed at how many people are looking for this type of thing but don't want to pay AppleCare's insane prices for replacement parts.

Oh, and make sure and check your local classifieds for MBP's too. I was shopping for a MBP a couple weeks ago and found a brand new in box MBP off craigslist for $1500. Amazing machine, no problems whatsoever, no dead pixels, etc... It's flawless.

That or Apple's refurbs fetch pretty good prices as well.

Anyone interested in a Hi-def (1920 x 1200) mod for PB/MBP? - Mac Forums

I think the OP is talking about the screen in the last gen powerbooks, with the res of 1440x960.

No, i dont ride personally... a friend was hit buy a car and died on a cbr. I wanted to get a bike but after that i lost the desire.. He was an an amazing rider and had studied and built bikes since we were little so not only did i lose a friend i lost a mentor and the person that was going to help me rebuild an older bike of his.... I know you have plenty of people in your life telling you to be careful, but please be careful out there... He always used to say "it's not how good i am out there it's how bad people driving their cars are". He lost to an suv full of people who were speeding and weaving and didn't see him. Anyway, talk about getting off track... just be careful buddy, for the sake of all of the people in your life.
