I like the countdown

I still have those OS X countdown animated GIFs lying around. I think they're even still accessable from Apple's site directly.

Has Apple tweaked the widgets a bit since the latest 7B8x seeds? They seem somewhat glossier.

It's hard to tell though, as some of they images they've posted look surprisingly smudgy. It also looks like someone did a kind of crude Unsharp Mask on those images as well.

What does the coupons say? "If we release a new OS in 30 days, you get it for free" or words to that effect with "shipping and handling not included" blurb?

Hmmm.. The pricing of Panther at the Finnish AppleStore is 149 Euro.

At the American AppleStore it cost 129 Dollar. if we should convert today 149 Euro to dollar it would cost me 176 US dollar to buy Panther in Europe.

Apple is giving their customers in europe a hint again that everybody except Americans should pay premium price for Apple Software and hardware.

Nice...

Hey I want a "take it for a spin" quicktime of the box.

Since I'm days from buying a new AlBook I assume I'll get it free and just have to pay $20ish for shipping and handling . . .right?

Nevermind here is the scoop.

Dude, I agree with you. Check your state to see if Apple is in violation (by not taking back your machine). Also, are you in education? It is only $69 if you are. Luckly, I am and I have a $20 couple as well making Panther a whole $49 for me! In addition, we get copies for our work machines.

I will also say that G5 machines need this update. The G5 runs like crap on Jaguar. My 1.6 Ghz G5 with 1.25 GB Ram is slower at many things than the 933 G4 it replaced. But in Panther the G5 is fast - real fast.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

So is the educational price only for the online store? I think my friend tried to get 10.2 last year at our Apple Store here, with his educational discount, but they couldn't do it.
Either way, glad I can get it for $69 even if I have to wait a few days for it to get here

When they say purchase, do they mean order or receive.

I oredered my 12" a few days ago but it will be at least 2 more weeks before I receive it, most likely AFTER the 24th.

Does this mean I can get the upgrade for 19.95?

If not, looks like I will have to cancel and order again...which is just silly.

Yes, of course it includes VAT. But Apple is doing a one-on-one currency exchange.

But using today exchange rate, my maths tell me (rounding up):

129 US Dollars = 110 Euros

Using my country for VAT (Spain):

110 Euros + VAT (16%) = 128 Euros

So Apple is gaining a 21 extra Euros for every Panther purchase in Spain.

I agree. You need to call and ask, in my opinion. They could be simply going by order date.

Well since that's on a Friday, I won't be able to make it to an Apple Store until that following Tuesday, so is there anything wrong w/ ordering it from Apple's Site? I'm in college, thus I can get it for $69 (good deal!) and it'll ship free since it's over $50...they'll probably upgrade it to Overnight shipping anyway...anything wrong w/ ordering online? Any benefits to buying in-store (serveral days later, mind you)?

You MIGHT get it faster if you buy it in-store. Someone here would have to tell you about ship dates, but I doubt you'd get it on Monday.

Let's hope Apple ship 10.3 like they did 10.2 in the UK.

I received my copy of 10.2 from the Apple Store on the Friday before it was officially released on the Saturday.

So hopefully my copy of 10.3 will arrive on the 23rd Oct!

Hi there,

Just a quick question: as I have recently purchased a G5 Dual I am entitled to the "upgrade". Is this a full copy of the software so I can perform a clean install or does it require Jaguar installed? I am hoping for the former as I prefer a clean slate.

Many thanks

Following up on my last post:

Just off phone with Apple. Purchase means order not receive.

I will not get my 12" PowerBook til Oct 30th or so from Apple but because I ordered on the 26th Sept, I am NOT able to avail of the Up-To-Date offer.

So, I either cancel my order and re-order straight away (which means more delay) or pay 149 for 10.3

That makes NO sense at all. 10.3 will be shipping by the time I get it but I will have to pay extra. Argh!!!

What idiots.

ADDED: After another call to Apple, it appears that the invoice date is the important one, NOT the order date and I will be invoiced the day my PowerBook ships. They put a note on my file just in case there are any problems. So, 10.3 will cost me 30 not 149. Phew...

Whow. 98,77 EUR is the educational pricing on Apple Store in Europe (incl 19 % VAT). Hmm, now the big doubt; shall I order this beauty, or wait until I can afford a G5, and get it for free.
