i was helping my dad with his g4 imac and came across a strange problem with IE that i'm not familiar with. every time i quit IE and started it up again, the favorites and the history were wiped out. i tried editintg the browser preferences, deleting explorer and cache system preferences and eventually trashed the whole program and installed IE 5.1.6 or whatever is the latest. same problem, no favorites or history would stay saved. both netscape and aol had no problems with this so i assume i'm overlooking something in Explorer. btw - the imac uses os 9.2 w/ dsl connection. thanks for any input you can give. apple support would give no help since it's a m$ product, and i'm afraid to contact m$ to ask for mac IE support frankly.

all other MS apps--word, entourage, etc.--must be quit when you quit IE, otherwise the prefs will not be saved.

The favorites and history are in files Favorites.html and History.html in your home ~/Library/Preferences/Explorer folder.

Check that folder and those two files with Finder's Get Info for permissions to make sure they can be written by the user in question.

(They should all have an owner "name (Me)" with Read-Write access to the owner at least.)

thanks car1son.

are you talking about osx though? because i'm using 9.2 and it only has system/preferences/explorer, but that's where the 2 files you speak of are.

i used Get Info but did not see any kind of option for user name or read/write access.
