Am I the only person to use Silverlining 5.83 with Mac OS 9.1?
For many years I have found Silverlining password protection simple, effective and very reliable. It came free with Lacie disks.
The only problem that I am aware of is a tendency for Norton Utilities to claim that disks have unrepairable faults, ie "serious partition map invalid start block problems". When I contacted Symantec they tried to convince me that I should not be using SL 5.83 with OS 9.1.
Does anybody know of a better driver level security product than Silverlining? ie no less secure, compatible with Norton Utilities and most Mac OSs up to 9.1, free or not too expensive and very very reliable.
I have read all of
http://www.macfixit.com/ultimate/For...ML/000019.html
but I did not glean much except that:
1 PGP does not do the same thing and may result in total data loss if one data byte gets corrupted
2 some drivers can be overwritten by others.
