For some reason the post went through three times without the post inserted. Which unit would be better given my needs:

-need a display with great to excellent tv/dvd viewing
-good for pvr needs
-real estate for two documents side by side
-serves as a decent to good secondary monitor for notebooks
Am I ready for the Mac? I want a 60G iPod!!!!!

Most LCD tvs do not function well as computer monitors. If all you were using it for is video it would probably be fine, but if you want to do anything text related it most likely would not be a very good option. I would go for the cinema display.

resolution on a 20" cinema display is going to smoke the resolution on a 23" lcd tv. Go with the cinema display.

Just FYI, I just got a Dell 2001FP for $749 (I think it's $710 right now) that's a 20" screen, 1600x1200 res (higher than Apple's 20") and has 4 inputs: Analog VGA, Digital DVI, SVideo and Composite Video. Could be best of both worlds for you since you mention wanting to use it for PVR also. Not as sexy looking as Apple's but it's $600 cheaper, has higher resolution, and has more inputs.
