for some reason I can't save to my external hard drive when it's hooked to my powerbook, it says it is read only, altho when I hook it up to my pc it works fine, I have to partitions on it both ar ntfs could the formatting be a problem, if so, how do I format on a mac? I want to beable to transfer files from my laptop(mac) to my desktop (windows)

i just got my first mac and had the same problem. macs can read ntfs, but can't write to it. you can use fat32 if you need it to work with the pc and mac.
