Do I need to wipe the hard drive clean before installing 10.4 ?

10.3 is on there now.

No, you don’t. You can if you want to, but it’s not necessary. You can do a simple “Archive and Install” from the 10.4 disc, that’ll keep all your documents, apps, and other personal content intact.

You can also just upgrade without going through the "archive and install".

The latter is safer, but if you have everything backed up (which you should anyway), and the simple upgrade works, who cares?

What I prefer about the “Archive and Install” is that the previous system is preserved, and that a brand new system is installed, meaning no updating of existing files. It just seems more clear cut to me
