AT&T has brought back unlimited mobile data plans for its customers, but with a significant caveat. Beginning tomorrow, new and existing AT&T consumer wireless customers who have or add AT&T DirecTV or AT&T U-Verse TV may select the new AT&T Unlimited Plan. The new plan, which "may be available for a limited time" according to the company starts at $100 per month for a single phone.
The plan includes unlimited data, plus unlimited talk and text. While the first phone on the plan costs $100, additional smartphones are $40 per month, with the fourth line free after a bill credit that kicks in after three months on the plan. Tablets can be added for $40 each, with basic flip phones demanding $25 per line.
After 22GB of data usage on a line in a bill cycle, for the remainder of the bill cycle AT&T notes that it may slow data speeds on that line during periods of network congestion. Business customers are not eligible for the promotion. The company notes that this launch is "the first of many integrated video and mobility offers" for the year.
