Why can't Apple get the same professional TFT screens that Eizo and La Cie use for their laptops if they are so serious about design work? I know the cost, I also know many graphic pros and travelling photographers would kill for a laptop that replaced their impractical desktop setups (inc monitors that are not made by Apple).

You seems to answered the question yourself - cost!

Many professionals (I work in a TV station) are totally happy with what Apple is offering.

I'm not. I don't know a single really good graphics pro with Apple notebook who relies only on the colors he sees from Apple's screens. They all plug in to a La Cie or Eizo for real color checking work.
