how cheap was the monitor? would you recommend it? I'm looking for a widescreen monitor for my blackbook and was looking at the dell 20'
It's a 19" Hanns G from Tiger direct, it's a nice monitor, it's a bit lower res then the Dell it's 1440x900 same as the MBP screen and cost about 219.00 and I have to say the JBL Creatures are pretty decent for speakers, I have a rack system in that cabinet next to the iMac anyhow

It has two settings. The low setting is very quiet. The high setting is a bit louder, but its a nice white noise that doesn't bother me at all.

Really, you had to show THAT game? Not that funny at all. (Yes, I'm from Sweden)

Nah, I really like that room. Looks like great place to relax and have some fun in.

The MBP is sitting on an Antec laptop cooler w/ USB-powered fans. Keeps the MBP nice and cool when docked.

File server in the basement (not pictured) is a 1.4GHz Gigabit PowerMac G4, 4x160GB HD in RAID 0+1 (hardware striped 320GB RAID w/ software mirror)
attached to an Adaptec FireWire 800 PCI card, networked via gigabit ethernet.

I would be afraid to run any MacBook in closed-lid mode with an attached monitor as those MBP supposedly get so hot, I would worry about it melting!

Where did you get that samsung monitor? I tried to look at a few online retailers, but I can only find them for a price well over 1.1k... That is such a nice monitor!
Anywhere I can buy them for $800 or around that price?

I'm in the UK. I paid £830, which is about 1.5k USD. All the prices in the uk are in the 800-850£ price bracket.

Very nice monitor! Only had it one day

Out of all my computers my 17 powerbook g4 1.67/2g is my fav. and love it! I purchased it brand new in Feb, and it has never given me a problem. THe only thing I can think of is the airport card sometimes acts up, maybe 1 time every 2-3 months. Other than that its perfect! Here is my at home work set-up. my 17 imac g4 (still runs great) sony vaio 45g and 17 g4 powerbook.

Gonzea,

Any desire to get a MacBook Pro? I'm on the fence. I'm trying to decide to ebay my PowerBook G4 1.67 and get an MBP (or perhaps even a Macbook) or just keep what I have. I love the Powerbook, but if I had the ability to dual boot to Windows then I'd be able to take it on a few more business trips than I do now.

Well at first I wanted a macbook pro because of the built-in isight. But after I heard about the screen tilt restriction (I know there has been alot of talk about this but hey..) I decided to keep my powerbook. I personally would never run windows on any of my mac's , I have a sony viao desktop anyway. I understand you may need to run windows on the road from your powerbook and this is a decision you need to make. My powerbook is only 5 months old and is maxed out. And the price was great I got it brand new for 1700 with the price of the macbook pro being almost 1000$ more!
This is my advice to you. If you have to have it , get it!
Just make sure you try it out first!

I really need to clean up my desk.. I also wish I could replace the desk with a desk made of glass.
Unfortunately I haven't found any which doesn't cost way too much here in Norway.

the wacom is great man, its a must for any kind of CG i believe.
too bad its anold intuos 2 and its not widescreen. i'll have to save some money to get a widescreen to go with my MBP.

but it works fine. they (unliike adobe) did update their wacom drivers to make them intel compatible.
now i just have to wait for the freaking cs3 to enjoy reasonable photoshop performance

Haha! I hear you brother, I'm counting down the days for CS3 to come out on the market. To be honest though, photoshop runs reasonably well compared to how bad it though it was going to run, and this is without the ram update! (i've ordered another gig stick, it should be here soon!).

I think it depends what computer you're coming from when you're comparing it to the MBPs slow performance, for me, i'm coming from a P4 2.8 Ghz with 512 ram! so the MBP feels quite good to me, althogh if you're comparing it to a G5 Quad, it probably wouldnt take long before you wanted to get back on the quad to do all your PS work!

If you need to know how fast these machines are, check out these links which show how the Macbook and the Macbook Pro against other machines
rosetta - http://www.creativemac.com/articles/...e.jsp?id=44258
univresal (XP) - http://www.creativemac.com/articles/...e.jsp?id=45099

Pretty interesting stats there, and to be honest, I thought that if PS performs that well in windows, I can always install bootcamp!

Not in the slightest. But companies have created port replicators for the Apple Laptops before, I'm sure with the popularity of the MacBooks one will pop up for them as well.

Here's what I use at the office:

I use a fabulous program called Teleport to control control the Ti connected to the CRT as one unified system (even supports dragging of files and folders from one machine to the other). Essentially, this operates as one computer with a 5600x900-1200 display because teleport is so fast, with exception that you can't drag windows from one computer to the next. I also use MySync to sync the bookmarks, address books, calendars from one machine to the next, so it works like one system.

Both machines connect to via gigabit network and to a RAID 5 file server. The Polycom phone is a 2 line phone (one line POTS other Vonage VoIP) has two mics for full-duplex 360 coverage (like the table conference phones you see). Using the integrated headset amp, the Sennheiser telecom headset is excellent with its ultra noise cancelling mic.

I'll probably replace that 17" CRT with a 17" or 19" LCD, not as the 20.1" that it will be next to, but that's ok, since the Ti doesn't have the power the MBP has.

Wow, you still have a SE T637? Any phone that comes into my hands usually get destroyed within a couple of months.
