Pick any two and I can give you a recommendation:
-cheap
-good sound
-in-ear

I just bought these a few weeks ago. They sound good enough to me and they're discreet even for in-ear headphones.

If you like bass-heavy sound, go for the v-moda Vibe Duo in gunmetal black for $100.

If you don't care about having the inline mike and are fine with good (but not excellent) sound, get the Sony MDR-EX75 for around $50.

If you want top sound and inline mike, go for the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 4vi for about $150 or the Etymotic hf2 for about $180.

My fave of all of those is the Ultimate Ears. (And I say that owning the much more expensive Shure SE310 plus separate iPhone mike adapter.)

Super.fi 4vi's right ear piece failed after three months of use.. yes the sound quality is great specially when you're not moving, if you go jogging with it you'll hear the friction of the cables.
I tried to claim warranty but since the guy from YNZAL (a local reseller) bought it for me when he went to macworld 2008 lost his receipt I'm not sure if they can replace it or not..

Super.fi is so expensive to last only for 6 months...
